Where does Starschlong say that RG had nothign to do with the game? I wondered the same. Those links don't really point to anything he's saying.

The claim that Lord British isn't involved is a quote from the video, you can see the debate in the comments; but Starr Long when given the timestamp points out that it's probably an off the cuff joke from Richard, rather than an actual statement. I'd tend to agree, although again, they're also trying to be clever with spin, in that the reality of Shroud remains exactly as perceived; the game is designed more for Chris Spears appalling economic ignorance and fund raising greed than what the average audience observer would feel is the spirit of a Lord British game... so the criticism is valid, even if the example given to make a snarky headline is being stretched out of context. And what is really obvious however is the continued un-professionalism; both Starr and Spears have recently got into yet more thin skinned attacking of critics, rather than dealing with the fact your audience is unhappy. Behold this ridiculous exchange on a Steam review. I make sure to do the basic research (it's not hard, you just need to look at the list of reviews) and point out that Chris Spears trying to fudge the total reviews with the Recent Positive, and even that isn't valid, because the 19 positives are made up of at least 11 who are clearly long term backers just trying to manipulate opinion, because they've got far more time invested than is humanly possible in the 2 weeks Steam counts as Recently Played. If you honestly wanted to make a fantastic game, the most vital thing to do wouldn't be cherry picking the data to make you feel you are, it's to actually listen to valuable feedback and adapt to it. Instead we get "oh the critics are just VERY loud". Yes, but we're also right, you fools.

No hyperbole at all in the SotA lie. Money was raised on the reputation of RG creating a new game. It doesn't mean he is expected to do everything and he can be the Creative Director, but when it comes to the most important design choices the FACT that he didn't have absolute authority:
"That just means he does not have absolute authority on the project and it is a team effort where we collaborate on design decisions." - Starr Long
or no level of authority at all:
"Problem is, people think I have any level of authority on this team when in fact I don't!" -Richard Garriott
This fact is the heart and soul of the SotA scam where shit decisions made on the most important aspects of the game were made by people other than RG. Would people have given money for Chris Spears to make a Ultima and UO successor? Fuck no.

Even if RG has no authority and freely admits he hasn't been involved, his name is on it and associated with it. He will never live it down.
