Is Blade of the Avatar +4 chapters. Backers, if they want the now 'full story' can buy Blade of the Avatar (which many already own) +4 chapters for an additional $12 for digital or $25 for hard cover.
Yet another way to milk those that have invested the most financially. Just charge them for a book they mostly own (some of them in autographed form).
Even better, the thread about how excited someone was about the release of a book he has likely owned for over a year.
Want to charge people who havent purchased yet, fine. Trying to Bill extra sales out of people that have literally given you thousands is just sad, yet par for the course.

here is dallas with another pussy response: www.shroudoftheavatar.com/?p=59607#comments"We regret that some of our backers feel slighted about not automatically receiving the revised and expanded version of Blade of the Avatar as part of their original pledge rewards. It is important for you to understand that all of the publishers we approached refused to publish Blade of the Avatar in its original form since we had already distributed electronic versions of that novel to over 50,000 backers, thus greatly diminishing the potential sales of a mass market print and ebook version. The only way that any publishers would even enter into discussions about publishing a mass market version of Blade of the Avatar is if stopped distributing Blade of the Avatar to new backers and if we created a revised and expanded version of the book that had to be different from the original pledge reward version, with the expanded version not to be distributed to our backers." AKA It greatly diminished our ability to further milk those fuckers who were dumb enough to support our shit game. dallas needs to go back to spending more time at those asian massage parlors in austin and less time doing --general business--. Destination drive baby!

I believe they were charging $45 on the add-on store for a signed copy. I believe those who purchased that copy have just found out that the $45 version they purchased will be a paperback version. That's a whole lot of money for a paperback book. Hickman's autographed books aren't exactly selling at collector's prices.

I'm not positive but I believe that was the price when it was on the store. I also don't think it was listed whether the book would be paperback or hard cover. Judging from the responses in the thread, this is an issue as I think many might have been under the impression that for $45 they would have, at a minimum, received a hard cover version of the book.
Worse yet, to rerelease the book with 4 additional chapters at $25 hard cover before backers have even received their copy of Blade of the Avatar seems an unfortunate decision.
Blade of the Avatar, I believe, was also unedited and the new book is. Blade of the Avatar, from as far as I could get through it (7 chapters at most) was thoroughly uninteresting. I had to force myself to get as far as I did and that was at a time when I was actually excited about the game.

Destination drive baby! Ok, this surely is opening up Shroud for Kickstarter fraud; you have to be able to honour your reward structure as part of the terms and conditions. You can't not-publish the book, you have to factor honouring the print run (and everything else) into the kickstarter total. If they'd not even got a publisher at that point, and I suspected a year ago they hadn't because I asked about how many of the signed rewards they'd completed (originally to give them a public relations boost, look how many backers they have, look how hard they work!), and they tried to avoid the question. It sounds like they've only recently tried to source those prints, and have tried to tie it into a profit making scheme of a wider book run; now they've thrown their backers onto the pyre in order to support the public run over them.
