I ran across your forum after I got a private message on SoTA forums informing me I broke 4 rules and each one threatening to ban me because I responded to someone with "Want to be a carebear? Play WoW".
It was my 2nd day on the forums and it was in a discussion over PvP. I expected to take some heat as I believe in open world PvP, but at the time I was unaware how anal they are on those forums. The moderator Tarzan, Tazor whatever his name is, told me all these rules I broke and said my post was being removed and if I had an issue to contact support. So I did. Next thing I know , both him and Fire Lotus are in my message.. she says nothing, he goes into "That word was banned by people higher up than me and is not allowed and we remove it whenever we see it." and locks me from responding.
So I use search with the word "carebear" and get 10 pages of results. After reading more, it seems like they're catering to PvE players and certain individuals that are allowed to spout off and say whatever while anyone else that disagrees is "disrespectful". Searching google with "banned sota for saying carebear" also turned up this site and a few on Steam forums where others had been banned.. but if a PvE player says it they leave it untouched.
Right now there's a 38 page argument going on about PoT favoritism and abuse. Same shit. Some of the names mentioned on this site are saying whatever they want and calling people "delusional" etc. and other insults (not at me) and nothing is done.
After seeing this and what I've seen in game content, I don't see how they're saying it is almost time for release... so much shit is either not working, works really strange or is very hard to find since 90% or more of the game is big, empty player towns. Usually if you zone in somewhere and take 2 steps, you're greeted by a zone full of spiders. Several of the axe glyphs do work, but after you use it, you're faced in the opposite direction of the mob LOL. A lot of other goofy shit.
Pretty sad I got my hopes up to find out this is turning out like a free shard ran by who donates the most.

Welcome to the forum bluedraco20 - I'm not the official greeter (no one is) but wanted to say hey.
I've gotten moderated for calling myself a carebear, if that makes you feel any better. lol Other whales have carebear in a picture in their signature. Nothing is done to them because they've invested thousands of dollars.
You're a small fish, not a whale.
In the beginning, the forums were a bit more interesting. But after 2 years, people know which side you sit, and you become branded. Once that happens, it doesn't matter what you say really. Unless you change your tune to sing praises for the SotA dev team, you're shit over there.
It's not just you. It's the unprofessional moderators and the whales running the show.
Some of us here have been permabanned, others have not.

Thanks, yeah I see that with the big money folks right now. One is responding to me right now talking about their $2000 and calling pvp players dicks and nothing is done lol. What a one sided forum. I've never seen anything like it. My now passed wife and I ran an adult forum once that had people from all over the world and it was the top forum in it's niche worldwide and the people there were far more easygoing... I thought we had problems lmao. I'm sure happy I didn't back more than $45.

Because of those kind of shenanigans with the game, and the forums, I sold my Ancestor account but still have a $45 account because I was dumb and linked it to Steam. You can't sell the Steam account.
What thread are you in?

After a lot of searching and reading I think I see why I was hit by Tazar now. I made a few people in a certain guild which he is a member of angry with a post I made that was a total joke. No sense of humor on those forums. So I'd imagine it was the result of those two people that are in his guild throwing their temper tantrums. I'd say that mods shouldn't be players, but that would be hard for them to find mods being so small right now I suppose. Idk.

I apologize for your negative experience with SotA bluedraco. I've been seen complaining about moderation before as well and if it's any consolation, I've come to think that Karzopolis (idk his name), Fire Lotus, Mystic, Darkblade, and so on (the moderators) are not the people making the decisions on what should be moderated.
It pains me to admit it, but the moderation is grossly biased. However, such consistency cannot be attributed to a single moderator or a poor team. Someone somewhere has made an executive decision for moderation to exist as you have seen. We've all seen it (even the "whales" know about it), and although I hold less sympathy for alts and the like who get banned, I feel for you since you came into this completely unaware.
If you'd like to stay here and join us all playing UO on the perfect open-world old school full-loot open-pvp closed-economy donation-store-less minimal-decay-having RP-friendly endless-terminologies shard, then you're out of luck, because we haven't found it yet.

Maybe we've met before on DefianceUO, UODemise, UOHybrid, UOForever, UOEternity, or on one of those everything-is-free PvP shards.
If you don't mind my asking, how much did you invest into SotA?

Welcome, and yes, you have to watch out for some of those cash water cows over there, they'll getchya What Mordecai has commented is right along the bullseye. You have the moderators clicking delete based on a set of criteria which is obviously pretty strict. I've come to the conclusion that I can't really fault the moderators for how they moderate. However you can blame them for their personal faults and bias showing through at times which has now been well documented. The fault lies higher up in the organization and is systemic.

I played Demise for quite a while a long time ago. I've bounced around so much since then that I can't remember what my name was. I played UOForever for a few days before finally taking a break from UO. I was checking it out since Vorpsire had been on the dev team. He's a good guy and pretty smart. @insane - You're definitely right. I'm learning so much the more I watch. I don't want to say all the folks in Order of Drunken Elderly or w/e they are called are all part of it, but they do have a mod in their guild and after 2 of them took something I said as being serious, I got slapped with 4 violations when I said carebear by the mod in their guild. Maybe have been coincidence I suppose, but reading their posts they all seem pretty arrogant and talk like they run the show and know everything. Makes them target #1 for me

However you can blame them for their personal faults and bias showing through at times which has now been well documented. The fault lies higher up in the organization and is systemic. After Mordecai and IMs comments above, I'm a little different opinion here. While the fault might lie further up in the organization, there must be a purposeful allowing the whales to be as nasty as they want to anyone. And there is no excuse for anyone behaving the way the whales behave, allowed or not. At this point, I don't really care who is to blame. I only know the forums are a terrible place, and not open to anyone disagreeing with the direction of the game. On the one hand, I can't blame Portalarium for a no tolerance policy. On the other, they've made it clear this is not a game I want to play, so why bother asking otherwise. So even if I weren't banned, I've lost interest in the forums and game entirely. With that said, I guess there is no point to really posting here anymore either. I mean, IM made it clear there is nothing new to complain about. It's all been said.

Well, nothing new to complain about might be too wide of a blanked I am just of the opinion that if Portalarium wanted it any differently then they would change it. So the state of things is currently exactly how Portalarium want it. That is a little depressing!!

I don't think they're going to get a flood of new players, but maybe some of the old backers who haven't been keeping up to snuff plus some looking for a new game. Either way, they're gonna' have a damn hard time controlling that sudden "Mixed" rating on Steam they're inevitably going to get. Edit: It's at 71%. Wasn't it at 72% or 73% a month or so ago?

Holy Gee and Fudge, Welcome Blue! I have been a bad boy while gone, maybe much like IM. Sup Gangster? But otherwise and yeah! You better have that game board stacked with extra Queens, a lot money and Adolf's pistol to make any headway in the SotA forum. Oh! and buy the way, Caliya is mine! She just doesn't know it yet and neither does her husband, heh.

It's been at 72% for months. For it to fall to 71% would take quite a bit more negative reviews. They're not getting enough whales and cultists to keep up with the bursts of negative reviews. We likely won't see it fall much more until launch, though; people are already holding off on backing, especially after the recent spikes in pledge rewards, and I think among gamers who were more reserved, the word's already spread.

Once the game leaves the newb area on Steam, don't the reviews get reset? Episode 1 = clean slate?

Yeah, the amount of rewards is getting to be too much like a damn free shard. Seems like they're following that model. Now they're letting the high rollers submit pictures of their face to add to their avatar instead of fixing the fucked up issues. I'd like to see the real numbers on how much of that 7 million has gone in pocket. Yes I understand it costs a lot to make a game, but some of the best games back in the day were shareware that ID games and others made with no backing and they were as good as or better technology and graphics as the commercial games.

Graphics and such have changed. Expectations for multiplayer have changed. Not to defend Port, by any means, just that those things have changed. What I will say is, given the "experience" of the team behind SotA, they should have known better. They were among the pioneers of the WRPG industry, behind the first major MMO and have been deeply involved in the gaming industry for longer than I've been alive.
I will say that some of the original UO dream teamsters have mentioned the idea of creating both "rares" in game (via bugs) as well as, through extension, the "cash shop." When people started buying rares and pixels on UO, for example, they realized that the money for seemingly benign decorations and what would amount to bad programming (much like you would see missing pixels in a wall in a game) ended up being worth hundreds and thousands of dollars. No one would have thought, "Yeah, I want a jacked up blood spatter graphic for my house." Well, not until there were only three in the game, then it was worth something.
They said that because of this phenomenon, it lead to the idea of the cash shop: things you can ONLY get via cash, not through normal play. "Purely decorative", of course, but you know how that goes. It was an interesting video - I believe it was some convention. I've also seen those same guys talking to MarkeeDragon in the past, might have mentioned it there, as well.

I'm pleading the 5th.
Although I will add, muslim women should shower and shave their faces more often, keep their mouths shut in public like they do at home. This group of them kept using the word carebear too many times near me in a restaurant. I said to them you might make someone mad talking like that! One of them said to me, they were having a private conversation. OK fair enough, I said, then stay out of mine. flowers-flowers-flowers I began to sing and didn't stop until they left the place.

Nice try - try to insult a person on lack of information. Is it the only excuse you have to treat me that way? To hope I'm fat to justify your disdain for women? Your attitude reminds me of men who force women to wear burkas. Because we all know, women's minds can't be credited with anything, and better hide the way they look lest they tempt you. I think if every woman who wears a burka would join forces, remove their burkas and bind the men who forced them to wear it, there may be hope for change in how men treat and view women. Women should not take it anymore. The same for every Miley Cyrus, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and the like - for all those women that spread their legs and dance half naked, to entice men to buy their music - if they would all start wearing clothes to their necks and see if their music stands on its own, they will have stopped catering to men. And the more men rally to see women unclothed, the more women would clothe themselves, then men would see we have power. But as long as women subjugate themselves to the will of men, there is no hope for equality or to be seen as having minds and talents. You are a dinosaur, dodgy. Your views of women, fat or not, are antiquated and hold no weight in the world of women. You are the kind of man that women, that have brains and self worth, avoid. While I lived in Seattle years ago, I frequented a Korean spa for women only - mostly only us white women attended. We bathed in all different temperatures of waters and saunas, naked. Every woman who came there was beautiful to me. Fat, skinny, scarred, short, tall, etc. It was striking to me that the fatter women did not seem self conscious, and I was impressed by that. I admired them. All this is a very long way to say, if I cease coming to this forum because it's dying, it's not because of comments like yours. I feel sorry for men like you, because your time and ideas are numbered. Women will rise and not take your shit anymore. I certainly don't.
