Even for the row, if one accepts their hourly earnings potential, spending an hour a week to pay taxes seems absurd to me. I typically game just a few hours a week and when I do, I like to actually have fun doing it. Going out and playing 4 hours a month solely for the purposes of maintaining my ownership of a lot they charged me real money for already seems incredibly shitty.
You took my cash. Now you are asking that I spend 50 hours a year in game to maintain that property when there is absolutely 0 value added to the game by me doing so.
I cannot understand why this system exists. There is no enjoyable benefit for any player.

In UO, after all the problems in finally obtaining a house, the only requirement to keep a house was refreshing it by opening the door. Vendors had fees, but they were reasonable. They wanted to make a tax free lot, which was more expensive, desirable to have. Now they make having a taxed lot so undesirable that I'd be surprised people would still buy them. I mean, ok, what happens when you don't have the ability to play long enough to pay your taxes? You lose your lot. How much are players going to put up with that nonsense, after they've spent hundreds or thousands of real life cash, only to lose their lot?

Perfect reason for new folks to go buy the new tax free PoT lots available in the add-on store.

I suppose of 500 players or however many there are, can pull 150k in donations or whatever it was, maybe they will sustain the game with like 1k rich people? I dont really understand any of it.

It's possible! However, they need players. If the game world feels empty, people might move on. Although, I doubt those with 5000 or more will simply up and walk away.
Future fundraising may be an issue. Starr pretty much confirmed yesterday there will be future telethons. Without easily available housing (even for real money since they promised limited) the real big dollars can't come in. I think that's the real reason you see PoT deeds in the add-on store now. It affords them additional high dollar income.
They need to keep taking in an awful lot of cash per month to sustain a 30 person team. Some of their highest dollar backers (pot owners) are going to end up in ghost towns unless they can pull in high numbers of players. Hard to keep the money rolling in from those folks if they are standing in a town they paid thousands for that has 5 or 6 active residents.

The original promise that tax free lots were exclusive to KS backers was reworked, to make more money and screw the original backers.
