So been reading.
It seems to me RG makes his money from the sale of his company. He hasn't really done anything great since Origin.
He created destination games built up hype sold to NC SOFT.
Do you think this was the plan for Portalarium? Hope a big fish would jump in and take the brunt?

It was created for mobile games and in 2012 they made a deal with Zynga like a month before Zynga crumbled. I think you are probably right, Portalarium was a money making venture and they intended to do it in the mobile market. Then, they got fucked because the lucrative mobile market crashed and the company was in debt (a good portion of the money the company received that you've seen listed is actually in the form of loans to pay off debt, not in 3rd party backer support). When that happened and they were in debt, they took out loans to control the debt then launched an Ultima successor in the hopes to make enough money to both pay off the company's debts and hopefully make something out of nothing.
So yeah, I think he and dallas created Port to profit in the booming mobile market and they probably thought they were on their way with their deal with Zynga. Once that went to shit, they were in trouble.

I had a tin foil hat thought a while back. If SotA succeed great, if it didn't then they could sell their "engine" (collection of unity scripts) to other small dev studios which could just mod it for a new game. The best part about this is that the majority of the money has been given to them through a process which for the most part prevents people from getting refunds if it all goes tits up.

Can you sell second hand assets?
So theoretically they could sell the SOTA experience? With all art and mechanics?

Well, as we already know they attempted to put assets created by their community on the Unity store... I would say they can't do that without a proper process for submissions and terms, obviously because they took it down.
I'm guessing yes, they can do it. Anything the Devs create for the game would be Portalarium's so they can do whatever they want with it. Thats why I tweeted Andy on his assets he was creating. He created the assets and Port put them on the Unity store. His compensation for it is Salary. I think that is poor and he could do better on his own. But I'm not in the industry and I can't say that for certain.

I didn't blog about it out of respect for the person who was creating the crowdfunded asset, at the time they were speaking with port about it and you all know those who speak to me are classified as slime by port also. Didn't want to muddy his waters.

Didn't want to muddy his waters. If I'm thinking of the same individual, they were selling a slightly modified version of his/her asset on the add-on store, not the unity store. The individual then wanted to sell the asset they made on the Unity store and inquired with Port if that would be ok and didn't receive a response.

^ my bad, that could be the case. But SotA in house Dev assets are indeed in the Unity store.
