Not.Of the 8 or so devs online, most of them are reading the linked thread, a quaint example of goodwill in the SotA community. Admittedly, it could be argued that support of the game isn't hard to find there, or that Grave is still in the honeymoon period of game interaction (where dreams run wild and little is known), but even if that is the case, it's refreshing all the same to see a positive attitude and appreciation of the work of someone else. It reminds me of the earliest telethons, which I observed with great pleasure (though back then Rustic actually was a dev). Seeing the devs having a beer and talking videogames on a down-to-earth level went a long distance in humanizing them. For those wondering, there is no argument or claim at the core of this thread. It just brought me back to the early days when anything seemed possible, and I thought I'd share that memory. Describe how you used to interact with SotA back when you were starting out, before you became jaded, were banned, or became IM.

Seeing the devs having a beer and talking videogames on a down-to-earth level went a long distance in humanizing them. This is why I had an internal decision some time ago made to ignore how I felt about the Dev team on a personal level. I just mentioned this to someone in chat, that, what I see in these kinds of events leaves such a good impression. I like to see people having fun, enjoying what they are doing. However there is a great conflict within as what you see outside of these events just doesn't quite seem to match up. But yeah, anyway you all know more than you probably want by now about how I feel I'll leave that there. When I was first starting out, I was waiting. Waiting for them to request things of the community and waiting to help out. I really wanted to have a go at practising my writing with other Ultima fans so I could create an interesting NPC and perhaps even fill some in-game books which were a very cool part of the previous Ultima series of games to me. I can't remember now, I think there was maybe two official writing contests I entered? There may have been one more official, and a few community with dev backing writing contests that I always wrote for as practice but never submitted. The only other thing I wrote was for Sir Frank's contest which I ended up winning as judged by Sir Frank, and got a coin I did want to have a go at Unity, but so happens when they held the first few scene jam's I was on the road. I "played along" with MineCraft stuff based on their requirements though just to have a little fun. Though I've always had an issue with the community as a whole, there are members out there that I actually do like and do respect a good deal! I feel they are for the most part silent though, because of the forum shenanigans we all love.

Describe how you used to interact with SotA back when you were starting out, before you became jaded, were banned, or became IM. Aside from the one time I sat in some whale's basement watching a boring "tournament" of that release's OP build with all-timers wearing cash gear before I walked away from the computer and forgot I was logged in for 2-3 hours? Posting a lot of time-consuming critiques of maddening game mechanics to the response of *cheers* for the "great community" and the "wonderful journey we're all on". It didn't take more than two weeks on that forum to realize what was going on; I only figured I might get a handful of 'em to start seeing things differently. I'd like to think I did.
