The past 2 days, I've logged a lot of hours into the game. When I've been so over this game, dismayed, bored, and wanting to move on, I still logged in to see what happened at the new year's party. I mentioned it elsewhere but at any given time, there were only 6 people total (including me) but not a surprise because it was the final 2 hours of the countdown.
But since I was already in the game, I checked on combat to see if there had been any changes. That was also in another thread - no gold for armor or skills. With a bit of help, I got those things and advice where to hunt to level up.
It's been so long (a year? more or less?) since I'd played, so I forgot a lot of the setup.
The "feature" I didn't know existed (because I played so little combat) was this Producer (crafting) Experience points and Adventurer (combat) Experience points. Because I never played on full screen, I literally never even saw those progress bars. Newbies somehow get 2X the xp, and experienced players 4X. Don't ask me why. I don't really care why. The goal is to keep these 2 bars somewhat balanced, and I don't know why either. So you can lose xp points if you fail at something. But my experience, after losing combat xp, was it suddenly for no reason shot up from 4400 to 10,000 points. And again just before I logged, after doing some quests, it shot up to 30K.
These xp modifiers will go away after pre-alpha. For now, they're so people can test combat easier. At least, that's what I think I read somewhere.
Top this off with this logic: I got the 4X xp bonus at a lower level than someone else. Why? Who knows?
Had I not paid attention to those progress bars, nothing has changed with combat since I last played, except I can lock my deck without penalty, instead of playing wack-a-mole.
The same dumb thing exists, where it costs more to repair armor and weapons than to buy new. That's been there ever since repair kits worked. And you don't need a blacksmith kit to repair your sword. A tailor kit will work just the same, just as it did long ago. That hasn't been changed.
My next test was line of sight. Surely they've improved that over the last year? 2 creatures were hot on my tail and my health bar down to 1/8. I jumped up on a big rock and *poof* they insta-returned to their starting point.
One quest asks that you kill 5zombies awakened dead. They give you 5 cure plague potions. To replace them is 100g a pop. Did I need to use any? Why, yes I got the plague. But all I had to do was leave the scene and my health was fully restored and plague-free. No cost. Lovely.
Choke points are more annoying than ever. 'nuff said.
There are terrible clipping issues with any creature on a hill. Some sit there bouncing madly in place, trying to leave the hill. One disappeared when its corpse was looted.
Master skill trainers are sitting on their fat asses, upstairs in some random building in Ardoris, while others are far flung in the desert. None are practicing their trades that they're allegedly masters at. Not a single apprentice trainer will disclose the locations of the master trainers, even though they clearly know some exist. All for no discernible reason.
The one thing that they did change was you have to earn certain emotes through quests. I was rewarded with a Dance3 emote (really? they couldn't call it something more creative?). Finally expecting to be able to dance - as if that makes any difference in a game - I tried it out. And what was it? No dance at all. It was a zombie emote, asking to eat brains. Dance? Really? Zombie eating brains? Really?
This is what devs do with their time, rather than improving the above descriptions of problems, or giving a game people asked for? But hey, those POTs don't take up any extra time!
