I look at sota there is no way you are paying 60k salary for the work. Let's be realistic. It's unity. Games with far smaller teams have produced more. I think it's a combination of part time or sub contracts. Or even pro Bono . For the work done you wouldn't hire any of these people again. You really think that this is good development? Do you think the expense equal to the product? They aren't spending much possible, but if one thinks they are making the game to enrich themselves, how exactly does one enrich themself without paying themself in salary? How which this all be a game about taking money if one isn't doing anything with said money? Austin is a competitive game development market. It's a game design mecca of sorts. They would have to pay competitively in order to keep people. Senior Game Developers like Lum, they pull in around 90k. Holtrop would make significantly more than average and most likely more than Lum. Chris even more than that as a lead. Starr was working as a VP for Disney, he has to be making bank. The stand ups are out there, we know their employee numbers. Hell, artists and animators average $80,000 a year, QA $49,000 a year. Like fossil said, I'm trying to lowball with my estimates because I know they can't pay well, but they have to pay something when Austin is full of game development studios and salaries would have to be competitive. Pro bono isn't legal as far as I know if its not in the public good or part of some sort of internship. It's part of why EA was used and the counselor program ended. Part time is possible, but I'm not certain who on the stand ups could be part time.

Who would hire Darkstar or lum?
No one that's why they are here.
Let's say the big guys are getting the coin. They are making money regardless

Several of the members of their team are straight out of community college. I'd imagine they clock in at low on the salary scale. Its hard to say with Starr and Lum. Starr was a VP at Disney, so its entirely possible he'd find another similar job. That sort of position at a company like Disney might look great on a CV. Lum has plenty of mmo experience from his time at Mythic and NCSoft. I feel confident he'd land on his feet somewhere. He always has seemed to find jobs rather quickly after projects were cancelled and staff let go at other companies. I see your points though, it is incredibly difficult to look at the current state of this game 3 years from its beginnings and think that the money was spent appropriately. That leads to all sorts of speculation, mine no better than yours.

But the work they do in creating the world looks bloody awful. The people they got now have no creativity with what their building and what they create looks like pitiful piss poor lazy work.
