I have to hand it to Scottie. He made the gorgeous Hilt Fortress. I mean that in all sincerity. It reminds me of Skyrim. But, what use is it? They should be throwing all their effort into so many basic systems, it seems they continue to focus on graphics rather than player animations, combat, crafting, and so many other things. It's not that I don't like the graphics, or that they won't be needed at all. But focusing so much money and effort on those finishing touches seems utterly useless at this stage.

Having an artist fill out a level with extra details should not have any affect on other systems. A level designer has little to do with combat and the like.
And besides, they have gotten so much flack regarding their level of GFX quality, who can blame them for putting a bit more effort here?

I've never complained about their GFX quality, but rather, the actual player mechanics and models. They look horrible, not to mention weapons and armor. I realize it's different systems and developers. But throwing money at development of something when other things are screaming for improvement since day 1 is disturbing.

Making the game look better is certainly better than what they currently have. I fear though that there will be some inconsistency. I would imagine towns/cities won't be able to get the love based on the challenges of making the game work they want functionally (completely interactive world, etc). This could lead to really disjointed quality from scene to scene.
I'm all for improvements anywhere they can make them to the game.

Except the fact that they spent a year and a half on POTs instead of fleshing out the actual game. They could have spent all that time making the actual game instead of just POTs.

I'm just as happy playing pixel art games as anything else so my opinion here is skewed. To Bubonic 's point though yeah they are taking flack from all areas from the younger visual based gamer generation that like a bunch of shiny objects and shaking keys. Making the game look better at this point has to be the only way they can possibly draw in new players. dewderonomy hit the nail on the head though. So so much POT crap, that is the real issue, time/project management. On the whole yeah, I'd like to see core game mechanics being worked on, they appear to be largely pushed aside. And lastly, yes, Hilt does look pretty good and is a nice change!

The character animations that is a big sore point for me. I think they look horrendous and they should spend a significant amount of time improving them. All the lovely environments in the world will be wasted if the character you are looking at sticks out like a throbbing sore thumb. Visuals like the one above just make the character animations seem that much more out of place. Hopefully that (along with core game mechanics) is something the intend on working on significantly in the future.
I imagine, as Bubonic said, the artistic teams and the designers work in different circles. Its not as though an artist can up and move over and work on combat. Sure, we can argue over the money/time spent, but its water under the bridge now. If nothing else, it appears visually that some aspects of the game are changing for the better.

The more the merrier! Everyone's opinion is welcome, as long as it isn't a racial slur or some shit like that.

They always post what seems to be the same bland dungeon with a different name, just like all the "new" towns they do. It was interesting the first time, but its like they are rehashing work they did in the first year.

The sarcasm is strong in this one. That is fine, we do enjoy robust individuals here. Not the one sided Whale love going on over in the other place!

I feel both welcomed and not at all stereotyped. I think there's been such a division for so long that some ulterior motive is often considered as cause for one to begin posting here such as a newfound distaste for some aspect of the game. Rest assured, whatever your reasons, more voices are better and at least from me, you posting here is appreciated as is anyone else that adds theirs. I'm not hoping to tick another 'anti-port' notch. I'm just glad to hear people's opinions on the game and the goings on around it. Hope to read more from you, whatever your opinion is.

Without a core infrastructure in place, all else is absolutely superfluous. Without a solid combat system, that most people enjoy, the game is, and has been, nothing more than this:
