Created a character and entered the game. The server's admin gave me 300 gold.
I went out into the world to harvest herbs. I got hungry and decided to kill a rabbit. Apparently the rabbit was stronger than me. I ran. He chased me. His other rabbit friends joined in.
I was killed by a herd of rabbits. Lost my 300 gold.
10/10
Will play again.

Maybe. I may have to wait until release. I know the individual shards can add a lot of interesting unique shit to the Shards world, but I would need a strong official server I can play on reliably also. Best of both worlds. But don't know if it will happen like that.

You took gold from a Dev? Traitor! No, the server admin. Players create, mod, and admin their own shards.

p.s. still trying to fucking sign up for Mortal Online. Twats wont send me activation E-mail. That's fucking bizarre. It's almost funny. You're gonna' eventually get in one day and be like, "I waited for this shit?" lol It's definitely a game you gotta' play with like-minded people, though. I'm waiting to sub until I find that group; I'm in a guild now that blew up over night, and not entirely sure what the fuck the point of it is anymore. It started off about protecting and helping newbies (of which I am obviously one) and then became a catch-all for whoever the fuck had TS3 and a mic.

In that video I posted on Shards the developer said that our tamed animals will age and there will be multiple different combinations to train your pets. So people will need to figure out what works best to have the strongest pets. I thought that was pretty neat.

Oh my gosh, I just now checked out that game. The graphics aren't so great, but better than the old UO. But all the videos I watched remind me of UO, and THIS is what Shroud should have been. Geez, that they give the tools to all players to mod anything they want, build their own houses, etc. I swore I'd never get in on KS or a pre-alpha again but this one looks pretty amazing.

I'm not a huge fan of the art style either but it could be worse. Some of the area's like the graveyard do look great though. I think most of all the houses look really weird.

I asked the same people about Shards Online, that want nothing to do with SotA, what they thought of SO. They are super jazzed about it, but only if it delivers what's promised. They hold the same opinion about SotA as before, or maybe even a little worse as they've heard what's gone on. So if it goes as planned, we may be playing SO with our friends finally.

Hopefully you don't lure any of the ex fanboys that are mad over to Shards, I'd rather not see their development get carebeared too. I remember when the first Shards kickstarter that failed released, I tried to get as many Shroud people on board as possible to back it and pretty much everyone just said negative things about it.

We'll PK them if they do. I cant place faith in Devs any longer, but the way SO is going, I sort of get the impression they actually have a vision for what they want the game to be and that the steering from the crowd is not going to be paramount.

I would agree with that but there is already casual crap going in like the auto loot, grid backpack and the developers said it themselves that the only getting that stuff is getting developed is because they had enough casuals requesting it. Pretty much the same thing that happened with Shroud, all the casuals rallied up and requested casual things after casual things, now we have a hand holding shit box that does everything for us.

No, these guys PvP, played UO and NWN2, etc. but aren't fanboys of UO, nor would they behave like those old men over at the Shroud forum.

If a person can toggle the things you call "casual," I don't have a problem with that. In Shroud, I actually was glad they produced a listed backpack because those bags are a mess, especially with the sizing issues Shroud has with items.

Exactly, it may take me longer to loot a nub, and may get killed in the process, but dragging shit from a corpse to my backpack makes me hard and I love it.
toggles are fucking awesome, every game should have about 100 toggles for various things. That way we can still PK carebears because they think it is good for them with their auto grid bullshit. UKNOW THAY AINT LOOTIN ME ANYWYAZ

As I said before the developers said that those options will most likely be set serverwide by the server owner/admin. I don't like toggles for this because I want others to have to sit there and loot people instead of hitting a button and they are gone in 1 second, this opens up different possibilities. Also having your back pack organized seems to be to much to ask for most people, they are lazy and don't want to do anything. It's all easy mode content, I want the immersion, the hardcore and the grind.

I suppose maybe one of the good things about having the cluster sustems SO will use is that possibly like gamers will seek out the rulesets they like and jump into those shards? I mean I'm not going to look for this Shard: Hot Tubs Hat Collections Loot All Card Combat Oh wait a second....

That's exactly what Shards will be, players will join what is ideal for them and it'll split the player base. I'm worried that Shards won't even have enough players to populate these servers. The problem with this is, I want carebear casuals on the server I play on so I can make them whine. If I want to play hardcore, I'm guessing most most people that join that shard will be pvp oriented and not pve, so that will most likely limit the killing of pve people, harvesting people.. what fun is that?

Oh believe me, I understand that That is left to the person running and creating content for the Shard I suppose. You want carebears, attract them with carebear shit. Keep them there, despite being ganked, with cool carebear shit. Maybe. I don't know, I couldn't design a fun game.
