I know that people who love the game are driven to wax passion for it's potential, but damn the negative reviews are driven to hyperbole! The overland map is better than the kickstarter concept at least. And while I HATE encounters as many do, they are bringing new ones in at least - and a couple dozen times getting to a town? Sometimes you get a few in a row, yes, and you lose a few minutes running out of the scene (default response to encounter for me) but going from one end of the World Map to the other in R19 gives like 3 encounters. On the Hat quests going to 5-6 locations I'd get pulled into less than 1 scene on average while running. This would be good to test objectively however and actually see. A couple dozen times trying to get to a town pfft. I wonder why he felt obligated to kill and skin them and look for other meager resources if his goal was to get to town... it's a lot faster to leave the scene. And yes, the encounters thus far, are dumb - and fortunately, having seen the release note draft, they are changing. (Every other release the release notes drop into dev+ forum a couple of days before the release).

Again, don't you see the hypocrisy in declaring one side of the argument is "wax(ing) passion for it's potential" and the other is "hyperbole!"...? At least the critics are trying to address things they've actually experienced, even if they remember it incorrectly; the pro-posters are talking about things that they can only hope the game might be. But the actual facts are, as I've just made sure to post, the entire article is deceptively written to hide the one pertinent detail; None of the Player Owned Towns details listed there are accessible to the average player unless they spend $900 or more. It's not a "community" concept, it's gameplay locked off to all except the mega spenders. The best you can say someone without a town can do is beg an owner to place your lot on one of their spaces, instead of in an NPC owned town. This, AGAIN, is why the game is going so far off the rails; we've gone from allowing people to invest out of love to actively deceiving people in order to keep the hype up; this (like the teletype machine and radios) is actual gameplay content being locked off behind a paywall, it's the death of Buy To Own which was what sold many of us originally. And it's utterly immoral to encourage people to buy the game now without making sure they understand they'll never, ever get to do what this article talks about with regards to Towns.

They'll probably have a call-out for positive reviews of that article, just like for Steam. I agreed with every negative comment but did not post a comment myself.

About the original article: It's flawed in so many ways, it would take an article as long to rebut it. That all towns are already sold out, and yet that article is selling the concept as an awesome feature, that is downright, or should I say, outright luring people to spend money to pledge when there is no way they will ever be able to take part in that sales gimmick. Deceptive practices at best. Maybe I should post over there!
There is just so much wrong with that article, I can't begin to guess how far up Chris' butt that writer crawled.

Very nice review of SotA by mmorpg. Being a first time responder it sure sounds great. Looking at the negative reviews, one would think otherwise. I'm sure in a day or two the scabs will get hold of it, and we will all be back in alice's wonderland.

mmorpg. lulz. one thing i noticed quite early on when IM started is just how far the "reviewers" have their fists shoved up the publisher's ass at the same time how much of the publisher's dick is in the reviewers mouth. i do feel sorry for the first time reader that comes across that and buys to find out they just got taken on a ride down a bumpy road.

RedKnight has some interesting articles on how to use PR to create hype with 'constructed' articles sent to sites and shared around on social media, etc. Man, for a simple freelance journalist, Red Thomas sure tweets and retweets pretty often with SotA hashtags.

Excellent. You know the whales are gonna say, and have said, "Oh but if it makes a better game, I'm willing to wait!" What about single player investors? What about people who don't ever want to own a POT but have been waiting for a game release? They are the 50,000 that aren't being considered, while 130-250 POT owners have hijacked the whole damn thing.
