SotA Prime: -8% off a $300 hat which will have a unique, drab color than the other versions of the hat post-launch.

There are how many episodes? Five. What about garment types? 1. HAT 2. Shirt 3. Pants 4. Boots 5. Gloves So you can totally see where they are going with this don't you? Every episode release, they are going to release a new collectible garment type to go with it's set. Hats are just the fucking beginning and I'm already sick.

I'd be impressed if they made it to Episode 2, in any capacity, before being shut down.

I'd be impressed if they made it to Episode 2, in any capacity, before being shut down. I don't blame them at all for all the PoT and other income centric moves. I don't like it, I think its harmful to the game many of us hope to see, but I get why they are doing it. I'm fairly certain they aren't entirely financially secure for the future. Hell, having taken advance payment already from 1/3 of their backers for literally YEARS and YEARS worth of development on 2 additional expansions and 2 additional stand alone games is real real fucking bad news for the future. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Starr ducks the fuck out of this before all is said and done. That guy was an executive with disney (though they were shutting down everything he oversaw when he left) and unlike RG, he at least had some semblance of a career. He cannot possibly think its a good idea to stick this mess out. These guys are all playing this game, this shit can only end poorly and they know it. I don't think they've robbed people, as some do, and I dont' think they scammed people, as some do, but I do think they certainly have bungled this entire operation start to finish and that problem comes from the top down. Over promising, shit talking the entire game industry and people who work their fucking asses off putting in 70-80 hours during crunch times as lazy based on your credentials of some games you made 20 years ago. They've been chasing money for a reason, and I don't think it has anything to do with them being greedy. I think its because they know they are fucked financially. $7 million is't shit to make a game, let alone maintain servers and shit for an mmo like game? provide CS that doesn't take 2 weeks to a month to get a response? to provide content updates and bug fixes? To work on the 2 additional expansions? how about the other two games? They are in the hole and they are dedicating time into garbage like PoTs in the hopes it brings in $ because they need it. But it won't help in the long run. They've fucked up and fucked up bad. But you know what? Garriott will come out of it unscathed. Like every other project he's worked on that failed, he'll shift the blame instead of sharing it. There are people who worked at NCSoft on Tabula Rasa that don't exactly put that team's management in a positive light, though they don't name Garriott specifically, it isn't hard to come to that conclusion. The funny thing is, this was all supposed to be Garriott unshackled. Gone were the impediments of big dollar publishers pushing an agenda on poor meek Richie, who shucks just wanted to make the darndest game for gamers everywhere on someone else's dime. But now he's out of his bonds, they toil no more under the whip of the tyrannical publisher! Instead, now, they've got, well, several thousand publishers about 100 of which bother making comments. Whatever had previously restricted Garriott's overall vision from a publisher standpoint comes 100 fold now. Worse yet, in the grand scheme of things, some idiot that dropped $10.000 on this game contributed very little. However, his donation earns him a place of standing in the community and celebration from the devs, so cater to them they must. They are the ones in combat scrums. Instead of kissing the ass of a single publisher, Richard's freedom is kissing a whole lot more asses for way way less money.

The cost thing though annoys me. This is why they used unity. To keep costs down to keep updates easy. So wtf happened. Also I didn't expect a ground breaking game I expected a dated engine but with a fuckload of immersion and game play plus that old uo feel. Fuck people still play uo in renaissance for on free servers. Content trumps everything else. They could of easily and cheaply made a uo2 style then if that became massive grey could of sunk cash to make a better engine etc. Just like Dota.

Hell uo emulator were made free. A million on unity surely could produce a basic uo feature game.
Story and shit could come for years with the player base. Spend money on a foundry like thing from d&d online and there are endless adventure scenes

Well said, Argyle. I agree with why they've focused on it NOW, but they've been focusing on it for a long, long time. This isn't something in the last six months they clung to suddenly during crunch time, knowing they gotta' launch this game soon before the competition is simply too much for them to handle (spoiler alert: it already is).
And while I understand why they did it, what their motivations are, I do not condone it in the least. As you said (rather perfectly, I might add), they fucked up bad. I honestly cannot fathom a comeback from this, not with their limited funding, staffing and hype.

Yes, you read that fucking figure right. For anyone to anything of the sort based on crowdsourcing and themselves purchasing the assets from unity is a fucking crime.

Roughly 3 full time developer salaries for an entire year to add mounts to the game. Pretty absurd.
