What do you guys all think of Underworld Ascension? Do you think this is going to be a case of Single Player done right, or good try but "you've lost that lovin' feelin"
One thing that I saw that was neat was the fact that you can manipulate the environment to some degree in order to accomplish various tasks in a different manner. I seem to remember something like that was going to be possible in Shroud of the Avatar during the early days but I think it simply translated to, if you don't want to enter into the front door we'll just make a back door that is also very easy to find. Shame.

I think it's got more of a chance than SotA because it's more focused on what it is, and what it wants to be. Graphically, however, it looks shit. All these budget outfits can't make games that look good. And, as older gamers, I well understand the philosophy that it's the game, not the graphics, but when the graphics aren't THAT hard to do right, games that look poor in today's market are still disappointing. Its not graphics that is the issue, its the "Look". Take wasteland 2 for example, their overhead view has a great feel and look to it, but its not groundbreaking graphics. I think the ART is what SotA screwed up. The housing is all wrong, too many variations, the towns are gonna look silly. I don't have an issue with Underworld's Graphics, but i'm not sure if I feel like playing that point of view. Lately i've been retro gaming using 2 emulators for the Commodore 64 and Amiga. Playing old games like Ultima 4, The Bards Tale, Legacy of the Ancients , bunch of sports related games. Each has a its own its own charm or mechanic I like. Sometimes the simplicity of those games appeals to me.

Have you all watched the latest SC RSI Museum video? At first judging from the title of the video I thought it would of been about the Underworld game but I wasn't shocked about what I actually did see instead. Looks like the team here managed to waste a lot of Underworlds time by bragging about themselves, crying about things in their own way and trying to promote themselves, the typical stuff you'd expect from them. I especially like the part where he says that this game will go on for years, maybe 5 years, if the users allow us too. What I find odd about this is that people have already pledged for multiple episodes and they are actually trying to once again suggest that people give them more money in ways like this. Good subliminal threat. I'd love to see what happens if they actually decided to not make anymore episodes due to lack of funding.

Yeah the housing is kinda nuts. Ever been to the waterside and see around 10 lighthouses going off all at once? Lulz. But hey, they had to sell as many houses to the Sims crowd as they could, $$. I havent paid much attention to SC. I'm not sure about it, a lot of money has gone into that thing and I'm not quite sure I can see it returning as of yet. So have been gun shy. SC were complaining about things and self promoting when they pushed out something about Underworld? SC only 5 years?? Pass me a link to that shit

Pass me a link to that shit I think this is the video that Housewife is talking about: I tried to watch it to find the part Housewife mentioned, but I sort of zoned out about 10 minutes in. Maybe it's an interesting video, but I didn't have the time or will to watch it.

If Wiffey doesn't come back with a time, I may take one for the team and listen. If RSI can't maintain it's game off 70+mil for only 5 fucking years, what hope does Portalarium have... Unless I read his post wrong.

That video seemed to be more like RSI doing an interview with the Underworld and SotA people. The beginning is the three of them talking about their start in games.
I think Housewife meant that it was Port saying they'd be live for 5 years if their community wants it (and hinting around that we might not see later episodes if the funding/enthusiasm isn't there).
Not sure though. I'll try to watch the video again later tonight, but there's normally only so many of these types of videos I can sit through until I just totally shut down, curl up in the fetal position, and cry uncontrollably ;P

I wasn't commenting about SC in anyway, SC just was hosting this. I was talking about RG and I'll try to find that specific part in a while.

The time is 56:27.
I'll also mention that there is a lot of normal back and forth talk in this video, it could be interesting to someone. I just find it funny how RG and his team go about saying certain things whenever they get the chance and that the video wasn't really focused on Underworld at all, not even sure why Port is there in the first place. Also it's quite possible I'm miss judging what he is saying after listening to it again, not sure.

All good! But I am certainly interested in the Episode chatter and longer than 5 years thing or what not. Thanks for the review!

Anyone get the chance to watch the Underworld stream on twitch? I felt like I was listening to a RG clone, taking the majority of the stream to brag about himself, his previous adventures, how he was responsible for this that and the other thing. Wasn't much actual game information at all, which I was actually interested in hearing, to learn more about the game and to see more of it. Instead they just rambled on about the nonsense that I previously stated while playing a completely different game on the steam,, makes sense... good promotion for them? Mics were fucked up, one guy was super loud and the others were quiet, cutting edge developers right here guys.

SotA crossover promotion and overrated Hickman there as well (guess he has another shit boardgame idea). What did you expect? More idiots looking for a handout via kickstarter.

I didn't pledge, and whilst im skeptical of kickstarter developers capacity to complete their projects satisfactorily- if OtherSide implement most or all of those ideas in the Underworld Ascendant 'overview' then i'd consider buying the game after launch.

Same here. Really if Portalarium taught me anything it is that your "bonus pledge shit" doesn't mean anything if the game is never playable... KS for computer games for me is over due to this experience.
