Envy states that the Steam numbers aren't included and maybe they aren't, but how do they account for the -26 backers on 7/7 and the -84 backers on 7/8 if the only possible way to receive a refund is via Steam.

One time Mishri tried to explain why he felt 520,000 at launch was a conservative estimate.

I remember those posts, Argyle and IM. I think it was the last moment where I realized, "Yep, if I play this game, it'll be offline. These people are fucking nuts."
I was about to say, "And I don't know who TantX is, but I agree with him." Just realized that's my purchased account. Whoops lol.

Speaking of crack smokers, I particularly like majoria70's comment on the last page:
"And to be on topic I think if this game turns into the detailed, fun, interesting, surprising and deeply rewarding experience that is possible who would not want to play it?"
She's in for a very big disappointment.

She's in for a very big disappointment. She's just trying to earn points with Port. She has no clue and just put on blinders to avoid noticing everyone's going away.

I always picture majoria70 standing in a field, smelling the rose in her hand, a smile on her face, and in the distance the faint outline of a mushroom cloud.

I've really only played two MMOs for a long time: Ultima Online: I started playing in 1997, two months after release. My subscription has never lapsed and is still active today, although I don't play that much anymore. Eve Online: Played for about 5 years. I quit when they introduced PLEX. Makes the game risk-free because you can basically replace anything you lose using real money. Since then I've been wandering in the MMO sandbox wilderness until I found Albion Online. I'm backing the game despite what SotA did to me, and I'm hopeful it will turn out to be the game I'm looking for. We shall see. I wouldn't recommend AO yet, unless you're a glutton for punishment. :-) I think the next phase will be closed beta, which you can participate in at the lowest pledge level, $30. Release is early 2016.

I'll never invest in another KS. Portalarium has shown every conceivable way how not to do it right. If they get away with it, anyone can. So at least I learned a valuable, but expensive lesson in how to scam someone if you're a corporation.

Star Citizen got me excited about kickstarters and early access, and three months later, SotA did the exact opposite. Like Caliya, I'm also not inclined to try Kickstarters anymore, unless their intro cost is low. That's for two reasons: one, I have lots of hobbies needing tending financially; and two, a game with a high introductory cost is either too early for me to try, or it's likely got a fucked up funding model.
I've dumped $200 in SC and will likely put in more after Star Marine's released. I have high hopes for that game, and the content and changes being made keep me confident in it. I have zero confidence SotA will launch to any measure of success, nor will it have any semblance of a funding model post-launch to keep it afloat. I'm really glad I got out of it when I did; the rest is just sipping pina coladas and watching the ship sink from shore.

I wonder how long it will take after release for Port and their community to start pointing fingers at people like us as the reason why the game failed. Those evil dissenters and their slanderous talk.
Anyone want to place a few bets?

Some of them seem to think if they buy our accounts, we go away and along with us leaving, suddenly the sun will shine and they can frolic through fields of wildflowers

They will likely just blow it off as "the world isn't ready for this kind of game" or that "community-driven games aren't popular right now" or some equally distorted bullshit.

Portalarium's line: We built the game the community asked for. I am honestly not sure what they community would say if it tanks. Other than, "totally surprised didn't see it coming everyone loves it"

Their line would be, "Most people aren't as smart as us. They just don't get it. Some day they will see what an opportunity they missed."
lol
That "opportunity" was back in the 1980s along with their game design.

Yeah I think that is a pretty good read actually haha, but then they won't be able to hold back their hubris either.
"Most people aren't as smart as us. We put in thousands of dollars because we knew what a sure thing this was, but we can't fund the game by ourselves when others aren't smart enough to see a sure thing"
