I will.
Non-consensual PvP. Yes!

I'm looking for a game, myself, need my medieval/renaissance fix, but I don't really know enough about it. Well, from what I can gather, the game mechanics that caught my attention are: - Full-on PvP. There are "safe zones" but once you leave them it's every man/woman for themselves. Full-loot as well. Safe zones are low-tier so to reach the higher tiers you have to enter PvP ones. - Everything in the game is crafted by players and consequently a player-driven economy. Because you need to deliver your goods to local marketplaces and they sell only on those marketplaces, each town can have a completely different set of prices. - No classes, no restrictions character customization. You are what you wear. You put on a suit of armor, you are a warrior. You put on a robe, you are a magic user. You put on plate and wield a staff, you become a battlemage. The "destiny board" allows you to have certain abilities, but they are not what we traditionally think of as skills. They determine what you can wear, what you can wield, and what you can craft. - GvG warfare in the DAoC style. Also the ability to expand empires through warfare. There's alot more and these are just off the top of my head. It feels like the best of both UO and DAoC wrapped up into one with some really nice new features. But we will see tomorrow. ;-) Oh, and lastly...the highest "pledge" tier is $99.95, not $11K. No elitist pricks thinking they can buy their own personal game development.

I see. My wife and I looked into it, but it's basically $100 to alpha test for us. Got other things I'd like to spend that one right now hehe.

I'll report back on my experience. I'm hopeful. I've seen quite a few people who participated in the last alpha test call it the spiritual successor to Ultima Online. Now wouldn't that be a hoot...someone else building a better spiritual successor to UO than Garriott. lol

Sadly, it wouldn't take much to build a better UO (or even Ultima, at this point) than Richard. People tend to forget other WRPGs have come out since Ultima, all with decisions, consequences and multiple ways to end the game. Even Ultima didn't have different endings - you either became the Avatar, did the Virtuous shit and win, or you never completed the game (either because you stopped playing, died - which is technically an ending - or you lost so much karma you couldn't beat it). Without the rose-colored glasses, Ultimas are rather archaic, yet people treat them like they can stand up to modern WRPG masterpieces of today.
I'm also keeping tabs on Das Tal and Shards Online. They all seem similar, though, which I think is going to hurt them; none of them stand out from the rest, at least in my eyes (and I'd consider myself "average UO fan" and PvP enthusiast). I hope they are, though, and hope they become great games. As much as I'm looking forward to BDO coming out next year, I'm apprehensive after being buttfucked by ArcheAge and Trino of any kind of Korean MMO. I wish someone would emulate the shit out of that game and fix the grind and gear/item necessitation.

I'm not sure about Das Tal's "MOBA-style" combat yet. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I like SO's art style better. It's like a cross between Torchlight II and Dofus. However, my concern is about the same as yours: Too many games trying emulate the same type of game and none stand out as a clear leader. They could all get lost in the mix. Here's hoping one of them will stand out soon.

Sure. I sat down to play for about an hour today. When I finally got up from my chair -- 6 1/2 hours later -- I realized I must like the game. ;-) There's way too much to absorb right now and I'm just scratching the surface, but suffice to say this game feels like I'm playing a much better version of pre-Trammel UO. Aside from lag, which is mainly due to the massive number of people who are playing today, the game is rock solid for an alpha. I did a little PvP today as well and it's brutal! So much fun! Here's little screenshot to get you started. Remind you of anything? ;-) Every backer gets a horse, which is handy because you have to run everywhere. No portals to be found. In addition, the map is HUGE and it's not even complete yet. More to come...

How viable is pure melee or minimal magic builds?
I fucking hate wizardry.

It sounds like it's an item, but that when it's deployed (like an ethy is) it's killable (unlike an ethy is).

I've been looking at this game for a while, trying to figure out why some are hyped for it, it seems like the new runescape. I might of tried it if it wasn't for the floating name tags, looks like trash.

Mmm so the horse stays forever like the ethereal rides in uo? Nope. If you die, your stuff can be looted, even the rewards from your pledge.

The devs will take the feedback and go off and make changes. If they follow their usual schedule of 2 months, then September/October will be beta. There have a been a few guilds that figured out a way around SI's anti-zerg mechanics so that needs fixing before the game is totally enjoyable.

Sad but I've had more fun with this game then the countless hours wasted away in sota... It's good? Seems to have a good base, gfx aren't the best but the game doesn't run clunky, dunno if id drop 100 for it. 50 might even be abit high for it atm seems like most of the items that you purchase can be created in game. So depends if u wanna spend more then the minimum to play earlier beta. Personally I think if you pay for the min. package its worth it but the higher tier zones you aren't goin solo at it (you need friends). It's pretty basic right now but that should help them balance the game moving forward. So dunno at this point cuz I'm not sure how the higher tiers play out but it's basic and straight forward, their not trying to reinvent anything here. Depends what your eye is on out of the 3 uo successors they look like they all are somewhat going for the same type of game. At least its not 500 for a cottage...

Yep. $99 and your at top backer with $10,901 to spare. lol. I'm liking the game a lot. A few things I need to get used to but overall it's great. Some mechanics are even more hardcore than UO! You should go read their forums. The carebears and entitlement babies are out in force, trying to get the game dumbed down. Lots of glorious tears. :-)
