I know some people here knew me on the forums, particularly recently, and I know some of the people I've been discussing the shitty direction this game is going visit these forums. If all goes according to plan, I'm outie; Andernut's got my account (so any PMs to me there will go to him, in the interim), and Jatvardur will have it shortly hereafter.
Luckily, I was able to sell it off at a profit (surprise, surprise) and am getting the fuck out of this mess. Have fun storming the castle!

Sorry it all didn't work out dewd. You put in an obscene amount of effort in trying to change the game for the better. Glad you made a profit though.

"Cheers Dewd.i think the action you have chosen is healthy. As you know i deleted Shroud after R18s postmortem." Totally. I hope Andernut sent y'all my email in that PM (don't want to give it away here 'cause of some trolls from SotA), look me up if you guys are going to another game. It was definitely fun to discuss these issues with you all the last few months. Shame the community can't see the forest for the trees on this, but that won't be my problem much longer.
"Congrats on the profit, probably the best move you could have done." "Congrats on making a profit. GG
I hope you find a real game in the spirit of Ultima. SotA trash surely isn't it." Thanks, guys. I am a firm believer of putting my money where my mouth is, and likewise taking it and walking when available. The option presented itself and I took it. In truth I had been looking to sell it for some time, but I didn't want to sell it for $15-$20. I figured at the very least I could get some shits and giggles out of it in a year or two when they try launching Episode 2 (which we are technically and legally entitled to with our pledges) and cannot get the funding for it. I wonder what will happen at that point? I don't know much about Kickstarter fraud and scams and legal repercussions, but what happens when they can't get those other episodes out that have already been paid for and promised?
It'll be interesting to watch the fallout from that.
"Hey who do you contact about selling the account?" As IM said, we used Andernut. He's been pretty cool about it all, even though I changed my password to something like "fuckthisshit". lol We're just waiting on Jat at this point, and then I'll be on my way, leaving this bad taste behind. Still can't believe this was a Richard Garriott production; talk about a mindfuck. It's like finding out a personal hero is a roid warrior and wife beater, completely floored me.
"Someone got so tired of your sensless antics that they paid extra to get rid of you? Bye Felicia!" The possibility wasn't lost on me. I had some hats, so that's a thing, and had to get R18's hat before it ended. The person who's buying it isn't exactly one who has been outspoken against those of us who have criticized and denounced this terrible combat system. I was clearly not on an ignore list, either, which is a very simple fix and the obvious response by any mature adult. Judging by Jat's posts, I would consider him that much, so just to buy it to shut me up doesn't seem likely.
Either way, considering my post-to-like ratio and the fact I didn't just go around hyping the game and cheering like Marge to get likes and be a personal SotA cheerleader, I'd say my comments resonated with a lot of people, just as I liked their comments (and ultimately found this forum). This game will fail, and fast. It is a terrible realization that there are people out there so blind and delusional to think this will succeed at this point. Even if combat was fixed, they took too long; they had a window of opportunity and they missed it. They're about to go into the most competitive market (MMO, which it's marketed as) with the most saturated genre (generic fantasy, which it is) with outdated mechanics and graphics in 2016 when there are so many games coming out to blow it out of the water. The next year is going to be exciting for RPGs and MMOs alike, from single player experiences like Fallout 4 to Star Citizen beta and even guilty pleasures like Black Desert Online will likely be.
SotA will fail. The servers will come offline. The POTs will be rendered ghost towns. There is no plan for having the players run their own servers. Consider that 2/3 of the game is paid for by 1/4 of the playerbase and that much of that was based on nostalgia in the beginning, and you have no real means of sustainability. They already paid for the next 2-4 expansions, why pay more? Does anyone seriously think these same people are going to fund an entire other expansion, another million or more per episode for years to come? Even the most die hard supporters have openly spoken out against paying any more money for this game.
It's bittersweet to see Lord British fall like this, but when you start your crowdfunding venture with "all other developers are lazy", that kind of hubris gets the gods' deserved attention and ire.

Sorry it all didn't work out dewd. You put in an obscene amount of effort in trying to change the game for the better. Glad you made a profit though. Thanks, Argyle. Just waiting on the funds, now. It was the hardest $45-$50 I ever worked for, I know that. It's clear that Richard isn't exactly the legend he purports himself to be. He's been sitting on his laurels for far longer than I realized.

He's been sitting on his laurels for far longer than I realized. It's funny you say that because I recently found a Time article I'd ever run across before. This paragraph caught my eye: "I don’t mean to sound like a curmudgeon, except yes I do: Being Richard Garriott isn’t enough to persuade me to hand someone cash to make a game. Garriott’s track record — and I think I’m being generous here — has been pretty spotty since the early 1990s. I don’t believe in patronizing celebrity designers for nostalgia’s sake, or that someone who knew how to design something 20 years ago necessarily understands what it takes to break the mold today and simultaneously dot the i’s and cross the t’s." My sentiments exactly, although mine are a bit more "direct" Anyway, here's the full article if you haven't seen it: techland.time.com/2013/03/11/before-you-drop-money-on-richard-garriotts-shroud-of-the-avatar/

I remember reading that article awhile back, but sadly after I pledged. Like so many others, I got pulled in by the hype. I saw some PvP videos from 2014, people running into houses with spears and PKing guys, having a good old time. I was like, "Wow, that looks like it's UO with some (barely) updated graphics!" It was a little clunky, in a good way, and I wanted to be a part of it.
I had no idea how bad combat was. I had no idea how truly inept the dev team was, how bad RG was as a designer. I wasn't expecting UO 2.0, but I was expecting a GOOD game. It's all a lot of smoke and mirrors, lots of hype and nostalgia; they don't have much longer to actually fulfill those things. Yet they have the time to put in Gustball when so many stretch goals are hanging out to dry.

Or as I like to refer to it: Diversion Tactic 2.0 Diversion Tactic 1.0 was hats but it didn't work long-term.

OK, right after I posted I went over to view the release notes for R19 and read this, which deserves a rant: You think? Let me translate: "I'm the self-appointed 'Tech Lord' at Portalarium, which has millions of people's dollars, but like Richard and Starr I have no idea what's going on because most of the time I have one finger of my hand shoved in my nose and one finger of my other hand shoved up my ass." If someone told me that this entire game was created by a bunch of stoned developers huddled in a garage, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

I would strongly agree, grimgryphon. On a gold scale, gold being heavy, the skill and talent seems to be on the high side. A Bong stuck in one ear and smoke coming out the other.

What is funny is Richard Garriott would basically get high as shit with his friends in the 80s, fuck whores in Austin and created some awesome games. Now that hes clean and sober, and lost his dick to some french whore, there is no awesome games being created and its all delegated to a former lawyer faggot Chris Spears who literally has nothing of note on his resume to warrant him being a "tech lord" of any game, even a facebook SotA game that he was originally hired to do.
