He should be safe with that Starbucks video. To get PermaBanned you have to choose the right one. I don't think some high level backes care much of character development at all. I suspect card games, roulette wheels and crap shoots will be the sound of the second shoe dropping.

Sota is becoming THE EXAMPLE of what not to do in game development.

Would anyone happen to know exactly why the fuck they did what they did with the skills?
This has to be a bug or a mistake or something, you can't tow sandbox and player freedom for two years(looking at you British) and then come out with this system??

I don't know what they were thinking. I loved playing around with the passives and different weapon/spell configurations. Now I have a ton of points and the only place I can put them are in glyphs I have no interest using. Really, really stupid decision. I still can't decide which moron came up with the idea. They're all likely candidates.

Some dots are beginning to connect, what is really disheartening is a "medieval second life" might just be their game plan from the start.
Guess who will have the best unique Casinos.

Remember that whole "scandal" in Second Life where content creators were making animals you could fuck or get fucked by (as the case may be)? I'm thinking that's why there are so many sheep wandering around in Owl's Head.

Collecting millions of dollars from UO fans for seed money, then making something like Second Life, is indeed a scandal. Once they had their money, who needs the fan. Just chase them off. Now they only want high rollers with lots of disposable income. If the game is hardly playable and boring, Lets Gamble!

Someone called it as soon as they hit us with bank/item limits, can't even remember if it was me any more, but they said it wouldn't be long before you saw $$ store options to buy them. Sure enough, that came to be.
I wonder if this will be the same. How long until we can just $$$ for all the points we will ever need from the $$$$ store?

There has been a discussion going on about coin weight and bank conveyance, all a matter of RP and realism of course. All we need now is a Bag of Gems selling from the SotA store and presto! Let me remind you this is a standard in the industry.
I may have read Player owned Towns having their own coin/script also, pretty crafty. Can you switch more peas in my nut shell please.

I'll say this again, without getting moderated..."You can't Rape the willing"
Richard loves magic. The development of SotA has been a shell game all a fucking Long.

Sure enough, that came to be. I wonder if this will be the same. How long until we can just $$$ for all the points we will ever need from the $$$$ store? What? You don't like that you can get variants on cobble stone for real world cash and look superior to others? Me, sure, that kind of stupid shit, if people pay for it, that is their stupidity. It has been obvious since the first store items they were preying on the weak and willing to shell out cash for said stupid. The "problem" with that is simply the amount of resources dedicated to that shit. They bitch and whine about no time for over a year, as an excuse as to why they don't share development details, and also why their outward communication is lacking, self-admitting multiple times, yet spend time on dogs, and birds, and cobblestone. People trying to justify it, "it's only texture changes", etc... have zero clue about real production and timelines. Taking 3-4 days to make textures, lighting it, tweaking a shader, submitting it for review, submitting it to build, waiting to test .... you'd think, oh yeah I do that in Unity myself, it's stupid simple and easy. You have never been in a true game pipe then. All that shit stacks up. And is noticeably eating their timetable more and more now (latest remarks about release date) as to the lack of directed effort in things that matter, like COMBAT? Seriously r18 is getting an update on combat, geez, look, its only 10 months after the last real effort. What the fuck has been done since to advance the core game systems, that they whine and bitch about doing, that takes so much time? Its all a shell game, moving from month to month, sapping more money from what they can. I await the ultimate announcement about episodes 2-5 need more kickstarters, for more money, even though it is all supposedly funded from the first one. The fact of the matter is simple: They could have made a game, for the PEANUTS they got, but R.G. et. al. decided that 2 million was just a taste, and they had plans for a 20 mill production. Since the money was not bonkers blowing up like SC for their 5+ year mission, it was too late (in his or their minds -- hubris is a bitch) to admit 6+ months in that it was already way off the rails. Simple. It also explains why they didn't have a plan, at all, of the game, other than some loose ideas R.G. threw out there -- they could just "design" on the fly when they would be flush will all this future cash. Now, they seem to struggle to keep making money, and have to divert resources into bullshit store items that the bleeding stones will fork over the money. That would ALSO explain why S.L. was so emphatic about his pathetic positive review stressor for steam viewers.

I hate when they use "Well this is the standard for the industry". What if that standard sucks? Low standards? These people are unreal, they look at how other free to play games make money and try copying that method. I can't wait for the in game cash shops (i'm sure they will copy SWTOR or GW2). Problem is, those games are real MMO's having used their own millions and didn't rely on a kickstarter. You can't fucking double down !! We can't give you money to make the game then have to continue to fund the damn thing.
(1) RG said somewhere he estimated they might bring in 20 Million. Like Joviex stated above, that was the first kink in the armor.
(2) Work on the combat first !!! Thats always the hardest to balance and get right. (Shards online and Crowfall are starting with the combat 1st, because they fucking know a thing or 2 about game development !)
(3) This game should never have been mulltplayer. Should have just been make like wasteland 2. Nice quality RPG. You can't fucking cater to every style of play, SPO, OPO blah blah blah. You end up making everything half ass.
(4) Plan ..... They didn't have one. Its obvious.
