I really should get more creative content out there; but finally got around to getting another video up!
There's a fair few things we've discussed here at SU touched upon there too. In particular, why that despite finding Trump absolutely repellent, it also doesn't surprise me he's been successful. And of course, there's some talking about the shit found within Shroud... which I'll talk about more openly here, because I didn't want to get involved in personal slander in the more public videos. That's not the point, but ooooooh it was so much of a motivational factor in spending what spare time I had in finishing this video.
The original driver was a poster called MrAdventur3 on Reddit; but I've ran into so many clearly dysfunctional people who are using Shroud as an escape from real life, who are totally unable to handle any criticism of the game because they're so emotionally invested in it as an alternative reality they are incapable of seeing that listening too, and changing because of criticism will actually help more people escape into, and enjoy the game. In MrAdventur3's case, he'd spent a while abusing me on Reddit, to the point that he claimed I'd even faked my video review, but it turned out on another user's video he admitted he'd never really played the content he was saying we were faking criticism of. He was literally imagining what those parts of the game were like, because he wanted to feel good about being a backer.
Elsewhere on the official forums, I privately responded to one user, Jaanelle DeJure who was asking for evidence that the forums were biased in moderation. Obviously posting that evidence publicly would get it deleted, as I know because I've posted it before, and it was. So PM it was instead; After explaining that it wasn't just hypothetical, but many of us were experiencing real life harassment about it, Jaanelle went on a spectacularly bitter personal rant about how one named victim deserved no sympathy; all based on rumours she'd heard that this person had left up a lighthouse only as a protest despite not playing any more, and it was ruining her gameplay experience because it shined through her window, and she'd tried to get that person to take it down but they refused to talk to her. Gee, I wonder why? And when I said no, I didn't believe being so unbelievably spiteful and selfish was rational, Miss DeJure claimed that this proved that critics of the game were all evil people. Um. Yes. Obviously.
Most of the remaining positive reviews seem to be in the same mindset; "I have no real life; I love Shroud because I can grind, grind, GRIND in it and escape from my own life. And that makes me better than you". And fine, we all need escapism sometimes; but so many of the Shroud community seem to be actually opposed to sharing their world with others; they care nothing about improving the quality of the game, indeed even actively hate that they have to share it with others. I've never seen a community so dominated by people who want the label of being great, whilst being so unwilling to do the hard work and introspection that would lead them to being great.
At least, as it is now; but everyone who worked hard to improve the game got messed around by Portalarium, and pissed on and off by the community until it narrowed down to, it seems to me, those who felt they couldn't go anywhere else, or who were so deluded, they would tell themselves this is where they wanted to be no. matter. WHAT.
But those kinds of people can seriously just fuck off. Really. I tried to keep the response relatively polite in the above video, but really... just fuck off you lot, and get out of the way so people who actually care can make something people actually love for it's own qualities, not because they're so fucked up emotionally they need Shroud as a security blanket. But real artists are never satisfied. Unhappiness is the mechanism which leads to change for the better. Bollocks to all of you!
