This site has now become unnecessary. SotA is regularly called out and bashed on Reddit, MMORPG.com, and Steam. The sheep are finally waking up and I think is has a lot to do with all of you. You deserve a pat on the back for fighting the good fight against scammers like Portalarium. Richard and Co. won't be known for making a great game, but they may become infamous as the poster child for the pre-release money scams like Kickstarter and Early Access. That alone is a BIG WIN! Of course, we'll all be blamed for the death of SotA since is couldn't possibly be anyone else's fault. gg

Yup; although the real blame is of course Portalarium's for not designing a good enough game that would outweigh any wider social criticism that went with it. Which we probably wouldn't have bothered with if we were satisfied with the game too; we kickstarted it because we wanted to love it. Instead, we found out we didn't, but if we ever dared state that publicly, we attracted the attention of complete sociopaths...

At 293 peak players in February (it keeps going down and has never recovered from its all-time high peak of 603), and 55% mixed reviews, I don't know how they can keep anyone hired to continue working on the game.
It is sad, but all of us tried to tell them but they condemned us instead of their own ideas.

The so called haters are moving on. ( Me too) Rune should also not give them a second of his live attention. I think he got it now. He stopped. I notice that it is getting quiet.
They probably will think it is a good sign.
It truly is the opposite. Negative feedback giving is a sign of still having a product getting attention
But if all stop - Game Over
Well. Nice again to have a talk with all of you.
Enjoy the Games you have fun with.

I literally forget about this game until someone posts something that emails me. lol We all knew it would happen; eventually the players have to actually play the game and look around. But like many UO servers and RP communities (as I've said in the past) are based around 10-20 like-minded whales with their blinders are. This is their social life, and since they get GM or dev attention, it's their own little paradise to forget themselves in. I just quit UO Forever (freeshard I played '13-'14, went back in October and then left - here were our adventures in a nutshell: www.uoforum.com/threads/official-ship-licensing-now-available.89175/) and I saw the same bullshit there, as well, among the "RP community" and the PvP community. That server cannot retain its playerbase because people realize that things promised, like the Kingdoms Expansion they've been touting since 2014, as well as statistics (850+ average players, yet when the servers go down, there's still 600 people someone logged in lol), aren't adding up or coming out. Difference is UOF actually has old-school Felucca-esque rules that players and the overall UO freeshard community will go back to, but SotA is "just another kickstarted MMO". We shouldn't be surprised it came to this - this whole forum was about describing their End Times.

The word has definately gotten out to people on other forums. Portalarium devs are either delusional or they're trying to put on the brave face and milk who they got left for all they can before they have to shut down. I tend to think they're both.
I'm glad you guys were here to warn people. I got in a little later about 2 years into it's development but saw someone pointing to this forum on another website to be able to see what's really going on and a place to speak freely. I sold out my acct when I could and havent regretted it a bit. They saw you all as haters, but what I saw when I came here were people that started out big supporters of Sota, tried to help make it better with feedback, and were banned and shunned for not kissing ass and and not letting them get away with sotas problems and laziness. Kudos for you all for trying, they should have listened to you guys early on and they wouldn't be the biggest failure of the year for kickstarted games ...once they finally stop cowarding out and call it released.
Three cheers to all of you! /bows

lmao Koldar (doesn't show him as forum moderator anymore either): Yah he seems to be unleashed now on the forums and isn't afraid to speak his mind about his opinions on Sota now it seems. just did a quick look on forums for koldar .. knowing portalarium they'll have him and that darkmoon roleplay guy banned from existence soon so they can't upset them and the whales anymore.

It is sad, but all of us tried to tell them but they condemned us instead of their own ideas. One interesting thing, that someone challenging my figures on Reddit revealed but we'd not previously noticed, is that they're no longer releasing the sales figures for actual accounts. They used to be under the Total Backers figures, but "Umuri" noticed these largely stopped changing in the spreadsheet tracking the figures on the day Pledges were expired. My guess was that the small changes we could still see were from Account Transfers (disappearing from the system and put back as they moved around) and the odd charge-back or steam refund. "New Britannians" we knew was originally anyone who'd even opened a forum account, but now the only place we can see the sales is assuming they're somewhere under that figure still. - taking the first date that the maximum Pledges was recorded, 5th October 2016, we can see there were 185,810 New Britannians.
- the current total when I made my post was 195,215
- Therefore assuming every single New Britannian was also at least a basic account sale, they've sold... 9,405 more accounts, at maximum.

It was pointed out to me before that the bundles sold via the add-on store likely don't count towards the automated pledge recording so aren't reflected in their numbers. There isn't much incentive to purchase a standard pledge when bundles exist for the same price that offer a bit more. I've spoken to smack two or three times about his spreadsheet. He seems a nice guy and he had no problem explaining some of the data to me. He may have been the one that suggested the bundles caused the issue but I cant remember if it was him for certain and even if it was whether he knew that for a fact it was suggesting that as a potential cause.

He may have been the one that suggested the bundles caused the issue but I cant remember if it was him for certain and even if it was whether he knew that for a fact it was suggesting that as a potential cause. I suspect that's just the typical Shroud Reality Distortion Field active again; the bundles are $45, not the same price as the standard game access which is $40. I find it hard to believe no one has ever said "A Kobold mask and 30 bank slots isn't worth an extra $5", and decided to only buy the cheapest possible package; and yet this is what you have to believe to use it as an excuse for the actual figures; Sort the spreadsheet by highest value and you can see the game has never gained any users back after the expiration of the old pledge system. It's much more likely that Portalarium no longer counts any sale under that figure, and the small losses are people who cancelled their purchase under the old system. And the short term drops and returns to previous level are administration of some kind.

I see the lack of criticism and trolling means, not just that we've moved on, but we lost all hope. It's only people who have hope, who are angry and think they might still budge them to change something, anything, that keep trolling.
I think dodgy is right. They had the goal of making money. They did that. Probably stiffed their own employees with shitty pay and promises.

Want to Kickstart our MMO invest in our company? We're doing so piss poor and falling apart at the seams successfully with a burgeoning player-driven community, it would be foolish not to throw money at us that we've proven we cannot properly manage in design, business acumen or customer service get in at the ground level. Look at all the web-footed, forever lonely eterno-virgin whales interesting, smart and definitely mentally stable backers we have. Why, we're a right CIG with endless opportunities to milk this for another two years before these idiots realize how fucking empty this game already is expand the game and our future products.

My sympathy goes out to all those who couldn't offload their pledges before the crash. I enjoyed the SotA community, as well as the community here, for all the flaws that they both had. If only Garriott had listened and just made a UO freeserver...
