Long time lurker, thought I'd take the plunge and register since the SotA forum was hidden for non-members. Original KS backer who only really cared about single player, lost hope with SotA early, got fed up with the terrible community and terrible moderation that allowed the terrible community to remain terrible, stopped paying attention to it entirely and only returned recently because it's getting more trainwrecky by the minute. Just thought I'd say hi! And also, Caliya, when I logged into the SotA forums for the first time in, I dunno, a year? More? I noticed I apparently left the forums in the middle of a PM conversation we had. Sorry about that, I must've been pretty fed up with Portalarium at that point.

/matawelcome Warder Dragon We have been on the same side on a vast number of issues and I'm glad you decided to join us. I cannot promise that we're 100% secure, nobody ever can and it is impossible for me to tell with the tools available at this forum, just to be up front about it I can't prevent anyone from dumping info out of this forum any better than Portalarium could me in theirs

Thanks Secure or not doesn't bother me. I have nothing to hide (related to SotA at least...), and I'm not one for holding back or disguising my alias when I have an opinion.

Sorry about that, I must've been pretty fed up with Portalarium at that point. No doubt, we've both been pretty fed up. I don't recall what that PM was - I had several going from people too afraid to speak out but wanted to give me a PM "shout out." haha Welcome to the forums!

I think I'd just realized there wasn't any point since the usual crowd would just shout it down anyway. Yes, I realized it too but it's useful to be tenacious and make them boil. lol Getting a permaban was worth it, though I think they trumped up ridiculous and lame reasons. We all know they don't apply the same towards the whales. Just look at what they get away with over there. Now all the mods are locking threads to defend Ezekiel and his lame guild. Rather, they're preventing him from exposing how utterly stupid Portalarium is for having him, and his guild, close to their heart. lol

Suffice to say I don't think Port's community management will win any awards. What were the reasons anyway?

Hah! None of that is, I'm sad to say, remotely surprising to me. SotA moderation isn't as much moderation as it is damage control. Still ridiculous, though. But yeah, hi!

To see if anything had improved? lol Haha, no, I have already written off SotA as a loss. I don't think it will improve from my perspective. It was actually to post in that "final wipe" thread. I already knew it was coming, but I guess part of me still didn't expect them to actually go through with it. Surprise surprise, they did! I've been keeping my distance but heard bits and pieces from friends who still follow the game. This was my post, if you're able to see it: www.shroudoftheavatar.com/forum/index.php?threads/final-wipe-and-lot-selection.44430/page-12#post-496172Otherwise this was what I said:

You can't say you were in the minority, you got 24 likes on that post. Most have left or were banned, who agree with you. But, I'm left with is an overarching feeling of "Deal with it"™ This. You, and all of us.

I mean, look at what Drocis (who many of us fairly despise) said, which is true to some degree:
The problem with that statement - it's taken them over 2 years to where they are right now. And somehow they're going to push all those KS promises in the next few months before final wipe. lol
We also know this is Drocis's usual troll bait:

I refuse to get into that so I just didn't reply. But yeah, what bothers me isn't really the game anymore, it's the lack of respect that Portalarium shows for the people they stepped on in the process, many of which who made SotA possible in the first place through Kickstarter. It's very telling that in that same thread, one which the devs knew would spark controversy and disappointment, the only input from Portalarium is Darkstarr answering some very simple questions about housing.

Hehehe. Housing...
The Whales are quick to say that if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have a game and that they are deserving of the special treatment they get from the devs because the devs know they appreciate their investments more than we do.
What I have to say to that? Below me. If it weren't for us, you wouldn't have your Housing simulator Whales.

The full circle reality check might sink in after they realize they need to continue to pay through the ass to keep the doors open. They have alienated all the people that bring life into the world. I had no intentions of ever buying the prosperity tools. I just happened to go look at the add on store for the second time ever. $200 for all the tools? Lol really?

No no, by all means, hijack away! I think it's an interesting discussion. I think that it was obvious from the start that there'd be some kind of conflict between those who care about housing and paying for titles and those who don't, I just didn't (initially) think that Portalarium would resolve it by siding with those who paid them the most money. Though to be fair, they don't seem to take a direct hand in the conflict much, they seem very content in sitting on the sidelines and letting the community tear itself apart.

My friend, you've been away from the forums too long. They tore apart the community and left behind one shitpile that people have to tiptoe through. Their alts have taken over the discussions, and they allegedly have gone off "somewhere" - who knows where.

Hah. Well, I think that was inevitable from the very start. I remember heading into SotA's chat during and in the time after the Kickstarter and there was a lot of sucking up to the devs. Now, that's not uncommon in itself, but what set SotA's chat apart - at least in my eyes - was that certain devs not only didn't discourage it, they actually basked in it. RG has always had a cult of personality surrounding him due to his Lord British persona, but it was amazing how quickly some other Port staffers adopted it.
I think that really set the course for the community and was one of my earliest real warning signs. :/

Those cult-like followings are just that. To look up to someone (religious head, rock star, beginner of some movement, game developers, etc etc) is the same basic human trait of following someone else, rather than their own path. It's obvious when Starr is behind the camera, he dominates the discussion and toots his own horn all the time. He probably has no idea how many of us watch him and think, what a complete idiot. And RG, sitting there making faces, surfing while they talk, or being distracted, is laughable.

They constantly finding new ways to save money so all of it goes into development. It also uses crowd sourcing for content and we got the scrums to really nut out the game. It's such an amazing vibrant community. Seems like you just don't understand early access. Why don't you come back in a few months and let the adults play test?
