Hey look, Star Citizen doesn't have a thread yet. And it has like 100million dollars in it, must be awesome right? Something tells me... If Portalarium had that much cash, it would just be shinier higher res hats... If SC is doing this shit too, that only leads me to believe that gamers as a whole, might be as much of the problem as the people making the games EDIT stupid video plugin dont FF. Go to 1h29m28s

Can't watch the video right now, but the difference between Star Citizen and just about every other game out there right now, traditional or early access, is that Star Citizen is truly doing something different. The tech they are trying to push is the stuff of dreams; that's its biggest criticism. "There's too much! Feature creep! It'll never get done!"
For most games and devs, yes, this is true. But that is their goal. It wasn't at the point of KS - not publicly - but it was always the goal, to make a truly real, living and breathing universe. Chris Roberts always wanted that; when he saw people jump on board, he felt he could finally do it, that the technology was there - both on the development side as well as the player's side - to support such a game.
We're seeing how they are making that dream a reality. Not sure what point in the video you showed, but the multi-crew ship interactions is mind blowing. Every ship can have their own physics INSIDE while simultaneously being in zero-G environments, flying and barrel-rolling, while combatants inside shoot at each other.
These aren't instances.
That's spectacular. Like you said, with that amount of money, SotA would just have more polish, more "stuff", but it'd still just be another sub-par gaming experience. Whether Star Citizen is an epic achievement in video game history (and arguably even in VR expansion) or it's just "another game" is irrelevant; the fact that they will do it at all will change the landscape of game expectations going forward.

So I watched the video. I'm interested in what you mean by "players be as much of the problem."
The way I see it, the reason Chris Roberts and CIG is getting the kind of backing that breaks world records for crowdfunding every time someone throws a penny their way, is because the players aren't as involved as they are in some other games. Or rather, they are involved, but differently; it's more like "Give us feedback on the systems we will put in" rather than "Let's take a vote!" People don't back a game for the masses to then dilute to the lowest common denominator by simple show of hands (or worse, by whale fins).
Roberts has a vision. That much is fucking clear, and I love it. He's like, "I'm making this game. The details - I mean micro details, down to the difference of moving .1km and .09km in zero-G - is up to balancing and testing feedback. The fidelity and knowledge of the game is entirely his; anyone who asks him nearly any question he will have an answer for. This is his baby, and anyone who watches these will see that.
That passion does not exist in any capacity with SotA. It's just another game with Lord British wandering around, and not even a good one at that. The amount of interaction between backers and staff/dev is unparalleled. I think that was one of the biggest issues I had with SotA, when everyone said, "There's no other game where the devs are this involved with their players!" Bullshit. First off, plenty of games with more interaction between staff and players. I've seen it on their forums. At worse, it's on par with SotA. But then you have Around the 'Verse, Reverse the 'Verse, the Weekly Updates, the "Ten For The..." (10ft...) series, which is ten questions for (primarily) the Chairman (Chris himself), Producers, Artists, Devs, etc. Since the continued delays of Star Marine, they have had WEEKLY UPDATES on Star Marine from EVERY section of the team behind it.
They know things are important, and they recognize we want information, so they give it to us. I am greatly impressed with them and support Star Citizen fully because of it. Like I said, not my genre, but my body is ready for the great things they are doing in the gaming industry. In short, it's early access done right, the new standard.
Dare I say, in scope and industry changing impact, this will be the next generation's WoW.

Sara and I are finishing downloading the alpha. It's such a huge game when they patch we have to schedule our patching because it basically means we can't use internet haha.
I got walk around ArcCorp (last big patch, the "social module"), try on some different armors. It has its bugs, of course, and they're frustrating because when you jump into the game, it doesn't look or feel like an alpha. I walked to the railing on ArcCorp and just looked around. It blew my fucking balls off. I simply cannot understate how breathtaking this is. Even the details in places, the aesthetic, I can say, "Oh, this is totally Blade Runner." Or walk around the steam-doused alleys and think, "This is where I'll find smuggler missions." It's so goddamn gorgeous and real.

If it has the depth that you forcast from your imagination, it will be as sweet as it is pretty to be sure!
I'm $275 into SC and patiently waiting. It would take me, no shit, days to download the client. So I haven't played it for a while.

So I just played the Alpha. It's a little jumpy, dunno' if that's server side, my graphics setting (High) or both. Crusader is gorgeous. Port Olisar is gorgeous.
Ambiance is like I'm in a fucking movie. Coming out of quantum jump and seeing a comm relay zip into focus was like something out of a movie. I cannot understate that. It was surreal. Like "Oh, that's nice, there's a spa- OH SHIT THAT'S A SPACE STATION I GET TO NOW FLY TO!" Craziness. Of course, some Vanduul-flying asshole PK'd me instantly upon arrival, but that's okay too lol.
Found some Crusader security NPCs fending off pirates from another comm relay. Expert voice actors thanked me for the assist, then asked if I could EVA inside and flip the relay back on. Simple task, more of a proof of concept, I think, but it was a neat interaction. I then couldn't get back into my Delta so I suicided and went back to Port Olisar. I think I took too long in the decompression chamber (or whatever it's called) and when I kept trying to get out, it crashed my game.
It was definitely fun, but I think with a few good friends, it'll be impossible to put down.

It's basically "the game". Granted, it lacks the polish, the infrastructure for questing and such, and it's only one "little" area, but the ability to quantum jump to different places, see folks wander around and jump between FPS to EVA to ship combat and back again is definitely all in.

If anyone wants to start playing the alpha with me, I'll devote more time to SC. I am planning on picking up my contracting habits again. I'm part of a few orgs as an affiliate - mostly to gain contacts for future jobs - but I'm also going out and making contacts individually. I don't plan on running a crew or a fleet or anything, but that often ends up happening anyway. I do plan, however, to get some nice juicy jobs while having some trustworthy contacts on the side for the bigger ops.

I haven't flown it since it had the drone simulator thing and I didn't do that well in it, maybe something like 35 waves then got my ass handed to me.

I kickstarted SC so I could get into it. But ((sorry dodgy) cuz I don't wanna grind Albion with wipes.) I've been playing Elite Dangerous. The games core mechanics are superb. It's still one of the most boring lifeless games I've ever played though. Thankfully I have friends that take me out bounty hunting so I don't have to kill myself doing trading or exploring (which is pointless). This game still blows me away with the systems and planets. Would not recommend buying it unless it's like 30 or less. Just too barebones even with the expansion. But if someone that's into it let's you piggy back off them it's quite fun joystick combat. I spent a fair penny on a joystick for SC and Elite.

If SC was just space combat or just vehicle combat, I don't know if I would have invested as I have. It's the living, breathing universe with a fully fledged FPS system, trading, smuggling, etc. that excited me

So how many of you have SC??
I just refreshed my PC's OS with a new install of W8 after sticking with W7 for a very long time, took two days to update the SC client with my connection but I'm glad that my Hornet is now ready to fly, will jump in after I install a few more apps!

So how many of you have SC?? I haven't played the alpha much recently as I haven't had the time with family in town. I usually get a few hours a night, late, to myself and my wife, but that's really not enough to go get involved with SC. It was fun when I jumped in, though.

Buddy of mine's looking at pledges, which reminds me:
If anyone wants to get into it and pledge, you can use this code STAR-96WV-T2GG to get 5,000 UEC instantly. Those credits can be used to upgrade your ship further. It's part of the referral program and as many people can use it.

I want to remind everyone really quickly that SC and Squadron 42 will no longer be together in packages as of February 14, 2016. If you're interested in Squadron 42 (coming out this year) and the Star Citizen "MMO"/experience/whatever, I urge you all to sign up now. It isn't expensive and it's worth getting them together. You really could do a helluvalot worse with your money if this kind of immersive gameplay is at all interesting to you. And if you use that code, you'll start with a buncha' money to upgrade your ship on the house. Believe me, if this game is even remotely interesting to you, you'll want to get pledged before S42 goes for $50+ on its own (without a ship or SC access or insurance). The code, however, will still work after the package "split", but the best bang for your buck is getting it now while it's all cheap and tasty. I recommend the following packages: This is a backer pledge option, but might not be available for everyone.Same pledge as above, but might be available to everyone.Mustang Option - same price as above but a Mustang instead of an Aurora.Differences? Mustang's a bit lighter and agile, while the Aurora is more of a brick and is likely to have more storage space for cargo hauling. Cross-chassis upgrades (CCUs) allow changing your ship up to different variants, sometimes for free, other times for cheap, without having to buy brand new ships. They also have freebie weekends to test out other ships. Code for free money (about $5 in UEC for you): STAR-96WV-T2GG

I think you've got it covered, especially if there's LTI'd. As far as losing LTI if you upgrade, from what I've read, CCUing your ship will retain any upgrades and insurance levels. However, if you melt/sell your ship and use the credits to buy another ship, then no; that ship (and its upgrades and insurance levels) are deleted and turned into credits, first and foremost. I found that answer here.
