Meanwhile on Steam: One of the animation artists for Portalarium was caught putting up a positive review without declaring he works for the company, or that he got the game for free (which may not be the case, but what do you expect if he worked on it?). As you can see at that handy summary, this was after Chris Spears tried to use the "Most Recent" reviews on Steam to claim the game was healthy, and they're in the middle of trying to freep the New Years MMO polls in favour of Shroud... but which took me a matter of a few minutes to quickly skim read the new positive reviews, and see at least 11 of 19 were long term players with new reviews. And one of those who weren't it turns out later was one of the developers. He's since pulled the review, but mmm! That Portalarium honesty! And in Buyers Remorse news; remember that poster who was worried about going "hand to mouth" in a Steam thread, but was eventually pressured into spending at least $600+ on Shroud because he felt he was missing out (which is the whole point of their deplorable business model)? The one who then got involved in the organised harassment by Real Money Traders of me until eventually Portalarium banned me from Steam for calling them on their lies and abuse once too often? Well he's changed his review to a Negative now to, and... well, just read it! I made sure to archive it just after I replied too, just in case he deletes that. His personal abuse of me, amongst the many submissions I made to Portalarium about double standards, is still strangely undeleted by the Steam mods, all these months later however. Funny how that works. Shroud of the Avatar, folks!

Portalarium are sad and pathetic. Recent: Mixed (26 reviews) Overall: Mixed (793 reviews) Yup, it seems they've triggered a backlash; there's been a wave of negative reviews all of a sudden, and it probably comes from their own actions; The thin skin, organised poll stuffing, your own staff writing positive reviews and getting caught... never go full Barbara Cartland, Porties!

It wouldnt seem so bad if it werent for the link you posted with chris goin about a few upward votes trend lately. First its a handful of people and they did bad for sales on steam during the holidays which usually is a good sales month with half off. But then have your staff go and upvote it to make it look like its doing better just seems sad and desperate denial to make him feel good goin off on people on steam when they crush his thin skinned little heart on his shitty combat system and their ludicrous add on store. Thanks for the link Nemo. I talked to a few people that left Sota recently on wow last night, one of them you might know was IceQueen, kind of feel bad for her she hadnt seen that video about how the kickstarter started out til november or something. She left for good now along with couple other people this week. She did tell me that she mostly stayed and put money in it for some of her family and said sota had been shit for about 2 years now she just stayed for them is all. I always liked her shes the one of the few Sota people I met that was nice in Sota. She helped me when I started playing wow again and even gave me money to start out again on a more popular server.

I always liked her shes the one of the few Sota people I met that was nice in Sota. She helped me when I started playing wow again and even gave me money to start out again on a more popular server. The name IceQueen does ring a bell as one of the good people, yes. That's what's so heart-breaking about the whole thing; it was funded originally by a wave of decent people who were united in their love for Ultima. Sure there were the odd l33t D3wdz who didn't understand community at the start (Why, N-V, eh?, I'm talkin' bout the Y, N-V-A, he he) but even most of the PvP fans understood we wanted to build something wonderful and inclusive. But the project went off the rails so fast, and they kept burning more and more of the people who had love for the concept in order to please people who had money but absolutely no sense. My major regret is that it took me so long to see it; the SotA Sucks blog, and Insane Membrane and the earlier adopters here saw it all about a year before it finally broke me. And now people think I'm one of the worst critics, rather than just a Johnny Come Lately, still in my teenage "I can change the world" phase! But the reason I care is because I remember all the good people who got burnt, and will still to be... they're going to be catatonic when they realise there's no more episodes after this one, and they get the blame because the second Kickstarter failed. Portalarium will string them along and milk them right until the end; they've had opportunity after opportunity to change course, focus on the game itself not fundraising, and if they can't do the decent thing by now, it's pretty obvious they never will. I don't think they even understand that they're actually not doing right by their backers! Whether the artist posting his review was encouraged by Portalarium, or just the individual desire to defend his own work, it just speaks of desperation that's pretty common in the industry... when I was EM for Europa, the same happened behind the scenes there too; people were so glad, or just desperate to be working in the industry that they took enormous tonnes of unprofessional and unjustifiable crap from Mesanna, whilst never daring to fight the improved experiences for their players. There were some notable exceptions, the Japanese EMs tended to be phenomenal, both in creative talents and in supporting other EMs when they were getting the brunt of mob behaviour, but in general it was a case of "I wanna keep the robe, I wanna keep the robe, I'll agree with anything you say, just let me keep the robe!" I'll bet the same is happening at Portalarium too. "I'm working with Lord British! I get to work on computer games! This was my dream, it can't be wrong! We must be doing right! Oh go, keep the fund raising coming in no matter what, I want to keep my job!". Bollocks to that if it means doing the wrong thing.

Those lowered paid devs should be looking for a new job while they can. Game has already did a faceplant on the pavement. I know one thing Im glad i sold my acct when i could. This game got me to where i wont ever fund a crowdfund game again. I warn everyone i know to not spend money on it so they arent scammed and disappointed.

lol damage control on reddit from the link you posted.
Portalarium [score hidden] 56 minutes ago*
Hi everyone,
The review was removed by us because our company policy does not condone team members reviewing our own games. We simply had an overzealous team member that did not refer to the details of this policy, which we have made clear to the team today. They were only excited to share their thoughts of the project.
Also to be clear about reviews in general, we do not control or manage reviews in any way. They cannot be edited, taken down, or promoted by our team (with the obvious exception of the example above of one of our own reviews being removed by their own account).
Our apologies that this action caused some confusion.

Damn Hate to hear soemthing like that no matter who it is. Ya, I've not been paying attention really to Sota anymore as I had stated along time ago of my thoughts of the direction and outcome of the game. I still like to go read the forums and get some kicks, though the laughs aren't as good as once upon a time.

[Re: Ice Queen] I always liked her shes the one of the few Sota people I met that was nice in Sota. I always liked her too. She was willing to hear both sides of anyone's views and not attack anyone. It's too bad they lost her. She was a good part of the community. Looking at the marketplace, there's a whole lot of bailing ship. There are players buying though. I'm just so damn glad I sold, and made a small profit, when I did. Thank the lucky stars I wasn't making up conspiracy theory BS.

Firstly, I share your sympathies and I wish IronMaiden the smoothest possible path through the difficult times ahead. However, as I said in my emerging critique of the game, what was especially worrying was the way which they were actively encouraging people to over-invest; and when they changed it so anyone who ever downgraded wouldn't be able to reclaim their rewards later I was so disgusted I had enough. I would shortly have a run of personal bad luck too, including a medical scare, and could provide a direct example of my own in my Open Letter To Chris Spears. It always astounds me, coming as I do from a country which has (for now, just about) a free health care service, how blind the US system and even it's supposedly liberal people are to the catastrophic personal effects of a sudden illness because of your insane medical bills. Yes, even under Obamacare (which was designed by Mitt Romney and the Heritage Foundation), but what makes it worse is let's assume a best-case scenario; Let's say that IronMaiden survives the cancer, makes a full recovery, and somehow gets $25,000 back to spend on gaming. I wish that could be the case, I really do. But even if it were, if she re-upgraded her account, she's lost a huge swathe of her prior rewards now. August 2015 was the start of a rolling process of removing future rewards from future upgrades... for no other reason that to satisfy the mega-Whales with Royal Founder accounts who demanded they be able to leverage their advantages even more. And, like everyone everywhere, assumed they'd never fall ill or die themselves. That only happens to other people, right? So let's "other" some future backers and make even more money off them too, yes? Now the only way for IronMaiden to get the account benefits back, assuming a full recovery (which we all wish her of course), and despite being a loyal backer for years and having to downgrade through no fault of her own, will be to find someone selling the exact same bundle in the future and buy it off them again. Think about that. If that doesn't breed a rage in your heart to storm the gates of heaven, or at least curse Portalarium for being so fucking greedy, you must have a heart of stone. Yes, I understand from a business perspective Portalarium have got tangled in a greedy Gordion Knot of their own making; but even so, one thing is undeniable; they've created a system which is deliberately unfair, even to their most dedicated backers, all because they've lost sight of any sort of moral guidelines about how to behave. What sort of soul-less monsters would even think of time limiting future upgrades without realising the pit you're opening up for decent people to fall into? Ahh, but that was "Before XXXX", and like Berek's positive review which has since come to light, if you do something before a self-justifiably chosen date, it's all ok apparently. *weeps*

As you can see at that handy summary.... Makes me wonder who would write such a verbose, incoherent mess of a summary and connect those various dots of information supplied by steam and reddit users. Kudos to you, Nemo (and steam user puzzled, and others like reddit user Panavyn) for catching those important details. Chris Spears' comments about the mostly positive recent reviews, along with puzzled's revelation that matpsch's review was by Port's lead animator, made connecting the dots very easy (the follow-up info about Berek's review was just icing on the cake). There was blood in the water, it just took a bit of pressure to flush out Port and get them to show their cheater's hand. The fact that they won't remove Berek's review on the flimsy grounds that he wasn't hired yet (when he probably was) is amazing! Anyway, that summary (and the follow ups posted by CMG) almost reminds me of the diction in a certain journal, written by a certain masked anti-hero.... Okay, not really, but it was still great fun watching Port back pedal and make asses out of themselves while several individuals took notice of their shady ways.

I always think that maybe Portalarium may get a good kick in the ass from Richard Garriott for making him look like a giant scamming flower but then they go on to do even more giant scamming flower shit. It makes me think that Richard Garriott is really a giant scamming flower who is encouraging this shit.....flower shit.

Okay, not really, but it was still great fun watching Port back pedal and make asses out of themselves while several individuals took notice of their shady ways. Was it.... YOU?! Because CensorshipMustGo isn't me, I genuinely don't have any alts there, or anywhere else either. I tend to find that, as long as you fight your cause honestly, or as Rorschach would say, uncompromisingly to the end you can, at least amongst those who aren't just paying lip service to honesty themselves, tend to be respected for that. But are you saying I'm incoherent?! Why I oughta...! One advantage such honesty gives you is that you can expect the sociopaths to try and hurt you with any weapon they can think of, and as they tend to be lying, stealing, cheating scum they'll accuse you of lying, cheating, stealing too... and being honest but prepared to not be humble about it gives you a weapon to fight that off when the inevitable accusation comes in. Jammaplaya was trying to do that, in his own sub-gorilla level intellect way, by his ridiculous photo-shop claiming we all were the same account; but I guarantee he'd tried it on the Reddit mods first too, before having to resort to pleading to the public with it. If either I or any other account had been shifting our IP addresses about, he might have been able to raise suspicions... being a dishonest moron, he assumed we were too. Except, we weren't. And some of us know how to fight.Titler on Steam and Reddit is me; and I caught Spears spinning Most Recent as the Overall review score, but that even Most Recent was in 11 of 19 cases from long term backers, not recent purchases anyway. I then mentioned this and linked to the Steam drama on Reddit (and my Steam Review); whilst at about the same time as I understand it, a commentator on the Animation Artists review spotted who he really was, due to him using the same forum name on the official forums; which looks like it led CensorshipMustGo to pulling it all together and got more critics combing the positive reviews for names they recognise; which pulled Berek's review from a month before he took up the position. Just for comparison, and this isn't a fact about Portalarium I know, more for flavour about a similar part of the industry, I was sent a 1 line email saying I'd been hired for EM in August/September after no interview at all, just Mesanna sounding out the Europa community about which of the applicants they thought should get the job; didn't get on the program until late Septemberish/Early October after ages getting all the legal paperwork over to the US (had to be hard copy, no scans), and did 1.5 months of hidden training, mostly by myself because even UO had no staff nor time for supervised training, before I was even announced publicly as back up EM for another shard. Finally turned up on Europa in November, after about 2 months. So I'd be *amazed* if that 1 month before he was publicly hired, Berek didn't involve at least the knowledge he had got the job; are they really going to let their new Community Relations dive straight into the relations without any training or time to read the handbook at all? Well, considering how BAD they are at it, perhaps they did! But it's still very, very suspicious he's putting up a review just a month before he "gets" the job... Anyway; I have no idea who CensorshipMustGo is in a wider context. His user name and experience he's mentioned indicate he's had a similar journey to me, but I don't know even what forum he's felt he's been unfairly removed from, as so far I've not seen him mention it. Because Portalarium don't respect honesty, it doesn't surprise me that he has been though. There's quite a lot of us by now. And as I mention in my other thread, the guy who worked with the Real Money Traders to pressure Port into banning me from their Steam forums is himself now complaining that people are banned for criticizing the game. Berek honestly seems to think defending the game is far more important than basic honesty or decency, even if the lack of that is what is driving more and more people away. As long as they aren't allowed to publicly state they're walking away, Berek apparently feels the game will do fine!

Queen Berek's expertise is one of social engineering public perception so it didn't matter if he was well versed in the game. It makes a lot of sense as dirtbag Dallas Snell is also a big fan of social engineering and manipulation. That is not conspiracy shit either, both have blogs about that specific subject.

I'll be honest here, and it may appear heartless. Though I do care about anyone suffering from terminal illness - colon cancer is operable. But under Obamacare, there is no reason he should have as much medical debt as he has, because people with pre-existing medical conditions cannot be thrown off insurance. Further, if someone is disabled from treatment, and can't work, they can apply for disability. Of course, some bills could mount, like in any country, if you can't work. I have my tin foil hat on for this one though - the only way that guy is going to get $25,000 back is to make up some horrific story why he needs the money.
The only way someone could rack up that much medical debt under Obamacare is if they dodged buying insurance somehow. And, let's be honest - if someone has $25,000 to sink into a game but not their own health insurance, I have no sympathy for them.
Of course I could be wrong, but we all know people can say or do anything on the internet. I personally find it pretty wack that anyone would invest $25K or more in a game to start with.

It depends Caliya; people who are facing serious illness often will try any remedy at all out of desperation. The "Medical Bills" might not be for scientific medicine only, but also trying a lot of "alternative" medicine, owing a lot of money to lifestyle practitioners or new age flim flam merchants... someone who can spend $25k on a game likely has an unusual lifestyle as it is, and could have fallen prey to all kinds of things you and I could never think of. Or just, as I mentioned in passing earlier, they assumed because they're rich and lucky, they don't have to have insurance because they'll always be so. Or, like Nzguzzi, be suffering in real life but invested massively beyond their capability in a virtual one because online is the only community they have. Or maybe they're telling the truth, and we just don't understand the specific circumstances. There's a tonne of things it could be; Portalarium however deliberately escalated the cost of feeling part of the game again and again until even $25k isn't enough to avoid suddenly becoming a second class Shroud citizen. Isn't Envy and Drocis in for about 40-60k each too? And they'll never be totally safe either; there but for the grace of god... I don't know why IronMaiden is suffering now. What I do know is that Portalarium set up their Pledge system to so it gives you a kicking if you ever are unfortunate short term. So I reserve all my anger for them.

I'm feel bad for this person but i wouldnt donate money to someone because they made a bad decision or bad investment they cant take back.

As long as they aren't allowed to publicly state they're walking away, Berek apparently feels the game will do fine! Yeah, of course it's me I'd never call you incoherent, but I have called myself that many times (because I am)! Plus, I've linked to several things under that reddit name that points back to me, albeit obliquely (the "RedCombLP" photobucket and the images I posted with references to my Steam ID and SotA review to try to prove to Jamma's alts that I wasn't you, which I knew was pointless, but I did it anyway to paint him the fool that he is). All of that stuff leads back to me, but 99% of the people wouldn't catch it. I don't post there under a different name for any particular reason. I don't really like reddit, used to have a throwaway account (something like 7ooo7), but I deleted that account and created CMG in response to Spez going in and using his admin powers to edit people's posts in response to people trolling him about reddit banning the pizzagate sub. I don't care for T_D or /pizzagate, but I found it alarming that Reddit's CEO would stoop to that kind of behavior (which creates a lot of legal issues that I won't go into here), so I deleted 7ooo7 with a comment about why I was deleting it, and only made CensorshipMustGo later on when I still wanted to post/vote in the sota sub and a few others. Sorry to bring it up here, I just saw your OP and was just poking fun of myself and laughing about Port's reaction to everything (both matpsch removing the review, then them falling all over themselves to spin things after Knotaig came through in the clutch with the web archive of that review). I am still amazed they think leaving Berek's review up is okay (regardless of his employment status). It's a huge conflict of interest either way, but they clearly are so desperate for positive reviews they will compromise all appearances of ethical conduct in the name of not allowing their aggregate score to dip below 60%. It's embarrassing to admit I posted that nonsense because that "summary" was anything but succinct, but once I saw Chris' oddly specific comment about the 75% positive reviews, then your posts on steam about the 11 of 19 "recent reviews," and then noticed Puzzled's comment in matpsch's review, I could just smell blood in the water. I just knew if I poked the wasp nest a bit that the hivemind wouldn't let me down, and sure enough, Panavyn came up with that old review by Berek and Port walked away from the ordeal with egg on their face, as to be expected. As always, Chris Spears proves the weakest link at a company that's better at shady business than actually making a fun game to play. Thanks for playing, Chris. May your astro-turfing and spin campaign go better next time, kthxbai!

Yeah, Reddit is largely rubbish; but I made my account there because the Elite: Dangerous forums are often equally poor at handling criticism. I suspect it's a deliberate benefit of crowd funding for companies, in that they get an unbelievably positive community out of it, who act as their own free advertisement and morality police combined, whilst allowing the publisher to claim to be hands off... Where as on Reddit you can be a lot more open about issues you don't like. Either way, I used the name I was known as in that game for Reddit.
I didn't pick up on you being KB here though; or even any particular Shroud poster. I did think your OP was actually very, very good. It's easy though when you write a lot to imagine so many more mistakes too, but I didn't think it was incoherent at all. Clearly not, as Portalarium felt they had to respond to it. A veritable hit, good sir!
You mention the 60% figure, and you know, I hadn't thought of that angle. I'll bet that is indeed why much of the positive spinning is being done, to prevent the dreaded change in review score. Imagine hitting it in the middle of the Steam Winter Sale! It would have been a public relations disaster. With a figure of only 11 Most Recent too, it doesn't take much to imagine a small in game guild deciding this couldn't be allowed to happen... that it turns out to include at least one of the Staff doing it too was incredible.

First, let me say, I agree with your premise that if $25,000 in medical bills are problematic for him, then he had no business spending that much on virtual luxury goods. I am not defending him per se. However, to say the only way someone could rack up that much medical debt under the ACA is if they dodged buying insurance is wrong. There are four tiers of coverage under the ACA: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum. Each of those tiers offer differ pros and cons, deductibles can vary greatly between plans and tiers, and (most importantly) coinsurance coverage is very different among the tiers. For example, Bronze plans are the cheapest premium wise (i.e. lowest monthly cost), but tend to have the highest deductibles, and have the highest out of pocket costs if you actually have to use them. Platinum plans have extremely high premiums (i.e., highest monthly cost), but tend to have very low deductibles and the lowest out of pockect costs if you actually have to use them. The way he could have racked up that much medical debt is 1) whatever his plan, he had a high deductible like $2,000 out of pocket (and the coverage doesn't kick in until you've paid that much toward your care) and 2) whatever his plan, his share of medical expenses amounted to thousands of dollars even after his coinsurance kicked in (not impossible given the high cost of cancer treatment). Just look at the coinsurance of "bronze" plans. They cover 60% of your medical expenses, and you are on the hook for the other 40%. This is after you've probably already paid a deductible close to $2,000-$3,000. So, if over a period of a year, all the tests, treatments, and whatnot amounted to $70,000, the coinsurance of a bronze plan would only cover $42,000 of those expenses (leaving him on the hook for the other $28,000). And before you fault him for getting bronze coverage, bear in mind that Silver only covers 70% of expenses, gold covers 80%, and Platinum covers 90%. So it's not outside of the realm of possibility that he has serious medical bills even with Silver or Gold coverage (considering the steep costs of cancer treatment). Look at the "Guide to the metal tiers" on this page for general advice about what tier a person should pick: www.nerdwallet.com/blog/health/metal-tiers-health-insurance-work/People are advised to pick Bronze coverage if: - You rarely get sick or need medical services, apart from an annual checkup and maybe a medication or two.
- You are very healthy and not elderly.
- If buying a family plan, your children are grown and healthy and don’t participate in risky activities.
Maybe he's in his 40's (not exactly young, not exactly elderly). Maybe he has never really had healthy issues before now. Maybe he has no kids or they are already through college and have their own coverage through an employer. It may have made perfect sense for him to pick Bronze, especially when looking at the annual premium amounts (which would probably be pretty steep for a 40 year old if he was making any kind of decent income), but then suddenly he finds blood in his stool, goes in for some tests, and finds out he has colon cancer and requires all kinds of costly treatments, including surgery and even a partial/full removal of his colon which might require him to have special medical needs for the rest of his life. Even with Silver and Gold plans, cancer treatment is so expensive in the States, it is not impossible that he could have racked up serious medical bills, all while having insurance. To automatically assume he dodged coverage is just not right. As of 2015, estimates are that a colectomy alone costs on average $32,000; one month of chemo anywhere from $10,000-$14,000; one month of radiation $10,000-$14,000; and then there are the other costs like drugs, doctors visits, hospital stays, special diets, tests, etc. www.drugwatch.com/2015/10/07/cost-of-cancer/If you start to add all of that stuff up and then consider "coinsurance" means your coverage doesn't cover everything, and it is very easy to see how he could be well over $25,000 in debt. And remember, medical bills are still one of the primary causes of bankruptcies in the States for a reason. There are plenty of people who have insurance through their job (often 80/20 coinsurance split), but they or their kids have some serious illness (like leukemia) that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical expenses and the 20% they are on the hook for ruins them. They lose everything, and despite what you think, disability does not make up the difference if their medical problems requires them to stop working (or they quit their job to care for a sick child/spouse). With that said, this is precisely why nobody should sink so much money into such frivolous pursuits unless they are truly rolling in dough. Nobody knows what the future may hold. I can't say I have a ton of sympathy for him given his choice to blow that kind of money on a video game (when he could have bought the best coverage or saved for a rainy day), but I still think it is important to point out that most people in the states are still one major illness away from financial ruin, even with obamacare. And, of course, there are aspects of the ACA (like catastrophic plans and the certain yearly limits) that may alleviate some of what I'm saying above. Still, because of the way coinsurance works, having Obamacare does not automatically mean you are immune to huge medical expenses (which are totally out of control in the USA because of our broken crony-capitalist system).

I don't like the culture of reddit. Too much of a "safe space" stuff for me, too much shit-posting and people circle jerking to forced memes, but it does offer a broader audience for making a point (even when posting on a relatively obscure sota sub). So it's got that going for it, which is nice, I guess... I made a couple of connections to who I was over there, linking to my steam review, and my photobucket (which has earlier images of my "logo" and coat of arms as Kuno), but it just seemed unimportant to post there as KB. It's mostly a different crowd there, and I realized they won't care if I'm KB or not. If I say sensible things, then it will stick. If I don't, then it won't. Ironically, the thing that actually got me to be a bit more active over there was Jamma. His alts and trolling had the opposite effect on me (I think he intended to discourage us or best us, but it ruffled my feathers and I think it gave that sub enough activity that I would check it from time to time, especially just prior to going to sleep, so I actually started to engage there because of his shitposting). As for the 60% figure, I think that is their overarching concern, but I believe the holiday sale saw them really focus on getting the "recent reviews" up so that any potential customers would see it and think "hey, looks like this game is finally making a turn for the better!" Port thinks one step ahead only. They are just living to survive another day and don't consider the deeper implications of their actions. I'm sure, on the surface, they thought it would drive sales to bump those "recent reviews" up via their own reviews (and encourage loyal supporters to update their positive reviews). I bet they were even okay with Chris going to the mat on a few of those negative reviews (because those reviews were voted "helpful" and they knew potential customers would see them). So, it would seem like a no brainer to Chris to talk up the recent reviews score as if it was the overall score of the game (and downplay the negative reviews). But, as I said, they don't think ahead. They didn't realize that somebody like you would notice that most of those "recent" positive reviews were by people who have clearly been playing the game for way longer than the last month. Or that Steam user "Puzzled" would notice matpsch's review was a dev (who made it way too obvious), or somebody like me would piece everything together and take the time to write something that connected the dots. It is particularly satisfying to see how people picked up the ball after I put the possibility out there that Port was up to no good. Panavyn and others brought a lot more to the table than I ever could, and Port themselves indirectly validated the theory when matpsch quietly took down his review, but then Knotaig's web archive forced them to save face by spinning some yarn about an over-enthusiastic employee (and make up B.S. about Berek's review being okay because he "wasn't employed" at the time it was posted, which I still think is total B.S. for the reasons you and Knotaig have mentioned). Oh well. Fun fun, but still sad to see a game that could have been something great squandered by devs who are stuck in the past (and I don't exactly mean design-wise). I think some devs can do KS and crowd-sourcing correctly, but Port obviously can't. So much of what they do was S.O.P. for studios back in the late 90's/early 2000's. The problem is that those old tricks just don't work anymore. The internet is too expansive and consumers are too wise to the tricks now. I still contend their biggest mistake was kicking so many of us off of the official forums. If only they had done what they could to keep us engaged, to keep a dialogue open, to keep us in the fold -- they still might have some means of controlling the message. But, once they cut us loose, we became free radicals bound to no one and no thing and now we are able to wreak havoc all over the place and they can't possibly keep up with this game of whack-a-mole. In the past, there was an official forum and maybe some BBS or IRC rooms where people discussed games, but now there is stuff like Reddit and Steam Reviews that will guarantee they can never put out all of the fires that their own ineptitude starts.

With that said, this is precisely why nobody should sink so much money into such frivolous pursuits unless they are truly rolling in dough. If I had $25K laying around to invest in a game, I would also be of the mindset to buy the platinum health coverage. If I can't afford to take care of my medical or living expenses, I have no business blowing that kind of money. Even if it was on a credit card. I agree with you on all points about Obamacare. It was meant to prevent bankruptcies that are utterly trashing the US economy. But we all know, too many families also still slip through the cracks. It was not an ideal solution, it was substandard, but it was better than what many people had, or rather didn't have. Anyway, that's a whole other discussion. =)

I saw this on Dan Rather's wall on Facebook today:
Sharing my ACA story with anyone who will listen this week: My name is Cara Williams, and I am a Social Worker in Columbus Ohio. I am writing to express my deepest concern about plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act. For the past six years, I have worked exclusively with cancer patients in the Central Ohio area. Before the Affordable Care Act, I was routinely meeting with patients who shared the same story. And it went like this… “I’m a middle-aged person, usually with grown children. I have worked hard all of my life…paid into the system that I believed would help me if I ever got sick. But I didn’t think I would ever get sick. Then cancer. And I’m going to chemotherapy. I’m not getting better. My medical insurance is telling me that I am getting close to the annual/lifetime limit on my coverage. What am I going to do? Now it looks like I’m going to have to leave my job because my FMLA time has run out. I have been offered COBRA coverage but I can’t afford the premium (usually around $900/month) because I won’t have any income. I have applied for Social Security Disability but I won’t be eligible for Medicare until I’ve been disabled 24 months. And my Social Security Disability income makes me ineligible for Medicaid. I have no health insurance. Even though I’ve done everything right. Even though I thought this could never happen to me and my family. Here I am. With no way to pay for my medical care. What am I going to do?” Before the Affordable Care Act, I didn’t have an answer to this questions. I could only offer emotional support when patients had to make excruciating choices. Real choices between life and death. “Do I give everything up – my home, my car, my savings, my livelihood so that I can pay for cancer treatment that may or may not work? Should I stop treatment so that my family won’t be left with insurmountable debt? Would it be easier if I end my life on my own?” Life and death decisions. But now the conversation has changed. Now I can say: “Let’s take a look at the Marketplace to see if we can find an affordable plan for you there.” And patients do find affordable coverage. Finally, there is hope. It seems barbaric to me that we are even having a conversation about repealing this life saving legislation. For shame. I don’t pretend to say that the ACA is perfect. (If you use my story, please don’t delete this part.) Honestly, I would much prefer a single payer system that gives all people equal access to care. Insurance companies have too much power and influence. But it’s a start. And it’s better than the alternative which is not humane or acceptable in this great country. Please save the ACA! That’s my story. Actually…not a story…but the reality of real people in Columbus Ohio.
Thank you, Cara Williams. --The News and Guts team.

What I still find amazing is how low Portalarium can go. These greedy fuckbags won't even refund a guy with stage 4 cancer on a game that is not even launched. They literally would rather a customer die then give a refund. An all new low.
