Amusingly, when they move into the Middle Leagues, they're unable to manipulate the results, even with proxy voting... presumably others are doing the same too, but we get to see the real level of support on a more well known site where they have to out-compete other active communities, rather than just swamp a relatively unknown poll.

Hah got a kick out of this post on page 10.
"Shroud of the Avatar couldn't skew the numbers well enough on this poll like they did with the click one that required no registration on the other gaming site and skewing reviews on steam, so they'll just be touting they were nominated now on their front page lol. Enjoy your tied for 8th place trophy, way to go Portalarium lol. Reminds me of that Ben Stiller movie where his parents had all his mediocre last place trophies on display."

Let's be honest. Who pays attention to mmorpg anyway? Portalarium especially do, because the only real positive coverage of the game was there, and that was only because Red Thomas writes for MMORPG, he's also a major Shroud backer... and he owns his own astroturfing company. They'd gone all in on winning around that community, and probably saw this poll as the best "Gimme" outside of the minor webpages they can forge votes on. The review of Shroud itself at MMORPG however was given to someone else to avoid conflict of interests (Gasp! How dare they! Just say Red Thomas wasn't working for Portalarium by the date of the review, don't they know how this works?!) and it only got 5/10.

I guess I meant, what serious gamers pay attention? Portalarium aren't serious gamers, they're a buncha old men that lost touch with the industry. I'm older than some of them, but I haven't lost touch to that degree.

I'm older than some of them, but I haven't lost touch to that degree. You know, a few years ago I might have disagreed, but it does seem that MMOs have lost much of the media's attention these days; player numbers for the genre aren't that much worse, but for some reason the hype just isn't there around them any more. So yes on losing touch with the industry; chasing social media gaming was a similar mistake for the Porties too, it's still popular but they never understood the why. I can remember the pitch for "Ultimate Collector" and thinking "Who really wants to play something like that?" That's why I think poll stuffing matters so much to the remaining backers, they're still in the old mindset, and see such a stuffing as showing themselves a huge fish in a really small pond... but people don't apply the same value to it any more. Incidentally, the final results are up; Mu Legends had a massive amount of false voting going on, a shocking amount really... nearly 20% of the votes I'd guess were fraudulent, so it's impossible to tell how it affected everyone else's modified totals. But when the honest votes were all tallied, Shroud did go down a bit further too, to only 4.5% of the legitimate votes. In 10 years time, MMORPG will regret this poll though! A million players soon! Etc

I can remember the pitch for "Ultimate Collector" and thinking "Who really wants to play something like that?" What they didn't take into account, or realize, is that type of gaming had already passed the market window when they tried to hit that market. It was on the decline. They took too long and used someone else's concept after it had already been developed, hoping to ride that wave. Games like Farmville could never have longevity. All the games on FB seemed to have the identical elements, with different graphics. People get bored and move on. Again, it takes someone with actual vision that goes beyond a current trend. They proved they didn't have this vision with Ultimate Collector, and a worse disaster with SotA. It takes a business plan, with solid goals to achieve. They have said they design on the fly. That simply cannot work in today's lightning speed market. The minds of these 15 year olds are so damn quick, they're bored before you can even really get their attention for very long. As for MMORPG, this is the reason people don't take them seriously, nor look to them for solid reviews. Gamers know they have paid shills there and polls that aren't legitimate.
