Tangentially related, but for those that think the Steam sales are not included in their pledge totals, I provide the following statistics:
10/22 - 10/28 average new daily pledges 11.42 10/29 (start of Steam sale) - 11/1 average new daily pledges 87.75
This relates because I think its likely you'll see additional negative reviews come in as those people who purchased the game over the 4 day period review. Additionally, come Thursday/Friday of the following 2 weeks, you will likely see negative numbers in new daily pledge figures, as Steam returns are processed. This was true the two weeks after the Steam summer sale period, where 7/7 & 7/8 saw -110 new daily pledges and 2 weeks after that another -18, two weeks after that another -5, and another two weeks, -2.
2 steps forward, 2 steps back

I was going to make a post called "Chris Spears" and add why do you even comment on these? Even if you look like your right, you still look like a tool for commenting at all. I've never ever seen any other devs comment as much as port. The sum of it all in the end.

Thread necro time to add two tidbits: 1) Yesterday (or a day or two ago??) SotA dipped to 70% positive rating, before a couple of recent positive reviews bumped it back up to the 71% that it's been hovering at for quite awhile. That's getting mighty close to the "Mixed" status, Port. Better round up your LOYAL backers to counter these DISLOYAL meanies and their negative reviews, Starr. 2) I don't know what Chris is thinking when he posts comments in response to negative reviews, but he's not doing the game any favors. This particular exchange warmed my old, "toxic/disgruntled" troll-heart. Best read from bottom to top: My favorite parts... - > Could you please actually give meaningful feedback?
Portalarium got loads of Kickstarter backer and Early Access feedback, and decided to delete it, because they did not like the negative part.
and don't forget when a Wild Gargamel appears:
- "If they concentrated more on... finishing the product than screening comments I would not be so concerned. But as they seem to troll every negative comment, fuck them."
- "I'm a customer, so dont tell me what to say 'catnipgames', your product is shit."
Touché, Gargamel, Tou-fucking-ché (I can almost hear the " ravage the land as never before, total destruction from mountain to shore"...) The review isn't even THAT critical. He even said the game has potential. Chris is off his rocker to rip into this negative review. He makes them look like clowns for responding to a review that can really only be considered critical of their funding model.

I was going to make a post called "Chris Spears" and add why do you even comment on these? Even if you look like your right, you still look like a tool for commenting at all. I've never ever seen any other devs comment as much as port. The sum of it all in the end. Awhile back, Chris made a foolish follow-up comment on this review. It's gone now (I was too lazy to screenshot it), but he said something to the effect that "my first comment doesn't make sense now because the writer of the review went back and edited his review after I made my comment." I think he was referring to my responses (where I listed the broken promises in response to his claim that they've never broken a promise), but I am not sure. Either way, I pointed out to Chris that when a reviewer edits a review on Steam, a note is made in the review that it was edited (including the date), and I pointed out he was talking nonsense because the review in question hadn't been edited. I called him out on his total lack of knowledge about how Steam works (saying something like L2SteamNoob) and left it at that. After he saw this, he deleted his stupid comment (so I removed mine calling him out for his ignorance, but left my list of broken broken promises), and he more or less went silent until these most recent comments (another HERE). I thought he was learning that silence is normally the best course of action, but as we all know, a leopard can't change his spots. .... And while Steam Reviews are on my mind, I noticed Pharoahman's() recent review (and all recent negative reviews) are getting pummeled with downvotes. That's not that surprising, but what is, is how many upvotes the reddit thread he credited has received (164 with 96% upvoted): www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/3qt2mp/censorship_275_pledger_banned_from_shroud_of_the/.... Ultimately, I wholly agree with the sentiment that they should focus more on making the game and less on locking threads and quashing dissent (because more threads like THIS are just bound to keep popping up anyway), and they can't lock every negative topic on the Steam forums like they do on the SotA forums without it being VERY obvious that they are doing so. .... P.S. That thread about "is the game a cash grab?" just reminds me how disgusting it is that they permabanned me on their Steam forum because I find it disgusting when people like "G Dizzle" make claims like "everything offered on the store page is completely obtainable in game" and I want to say something about it (but can't... THANKS, STARR!/CHRIS/FL/WHOEVER BANNED ME FOR BEING A "DISGRUNTLED PLAYER")... His bogus claims totally ignore stuff like Castles, and the many efforts people like Nemo have made to quote Port's own FAQ about how things like Castles are only obtainable via high-dollar pledge. I guess, theoretically, they are obtainable in-game if an owner wants to trade in-game for them (or with real money out of game), but as Nemo and I believe Caliya have both pointed out, the chances of that happening are slim to none (as long as Castles have any illusion of "value", that is...).

There's some reflection of SotA losing momentum in the Steam numbers. Over the 4 day sale in June (where SotA dropped down to 50% off), they had 561 new pledges in 3 days. compared to 351 in 4 days here. Its also somewhat deceptive, the 561 included only 1 day (June 18th) that was discounted at 50%. The other 2 days during that period were sold at 25% off.

Hitting the tipping point... towards mixed. Which is almost a final nail in the coffin for steam.

There was another negative review today. 8 in a row now. Only a couple more and it falls into mixed.

I can't celebrate the failure of SotA. I want/wanted it to actually be an awesome title to live up to Ultima... Of course it was never my intention to attack it so that it would fail, but to expose in the hopes of changing processes. So alas, I fail right along with it.

I once shared your sentiment but Starr and Chris behavior has washed that away. Shit games that are scams should be ridiculed. Period. Lol

Of note, a couple of the latest reviews are from people with triple-digit play time. Nobody can say they didn't give the game a chance. The most recent one is particularly damning.

But I wanted to have a voice so that it wouldn't fail. They shut out virtually all the voices that could have made it a great game. They all read these forums, as if we're an arm of the forums over there. They can scoff and say we're just sour grapes over here, with a vengeance. But in reality, if we hadn't had such high hopes and been such big fans, we wouldn't have ever taken the time to do even this. Some may just like this as one big entertainment, to laugh at us and deride us. But now many of those whales are singing the exact tune and see, the shoe is now on the other foot. Shouldn't have shunned us, a*holes. It's their loss.

Change the title, or start a new one. It hit "Mixed" today. Not sure why because there are no additional recent negative reviews. But it's now at 69%. Maybe someone deleted their positive review?

The additional negative review came in the form of a thumbs down without text. The total number did go from 621 to 622 and the number of negatives went from 186 to 187. If you leave a thumbs down without any comments, it still negatively impacts the score and shows as a negative, it just doesn't show in the list as there is no text.

Can't change the title, at least don't think I can. Only IM can AFAIK. Also, I'd hope he wouldn't and that somebody will just make a new one (maybe I will later if I have time). This thread is nearly nine months old and I originally posted the OP to make a point about how little good the "Steam Review Request" did, in spite of the shadiness of the request. I've only bumped it at various points, along with others, to point out related developments. I agree that the mixed status deserves a separate topic, but I would hope that my OP's title isn't changed because it had a very specific point of origin and I was initially making a really specific point about the stupidity of what Starr asked LOYAL backers to do to subvert the review process.

You're right kb. I thought argyle was the OP, but a date of the OP and history are important to preserve.

Someone may have changed a negative review to positive. Even still, I suspect the community will make some effort to change it back by bringing in some votes. Its really irrelevant, as they'll continue to get negative votes. I believe the ratio of the last 20 is 13 negative to 7 positive. Even if it moves up to 50/50, they won't be able to keep the score up long. Not that I'm hoping for Mixed status, I'm just looking at it as an inevitable fact. I only watched how long it took to get there out of curiosity. I've no rooting interest in seeing the game fail. I do think the review score should better reflect the broader opinion on the game to inform potentially interested parties, and I think Mixed certainly fits that bill more so than any positive score does.

Can totally be fixed you all!
Tears said: We can fix the reviews before launch by writing our own and giving likes to people who know what the game really is. Too many judged the game as a final product and not as a game in design.
