^This is demonstrating the plight of a single-player role player who still tries to take SOTA seriously. This is clearly somebody who is immersing themselves in the world, really thinking about things, really examining the implications of what is happening in the game world as they go about their activities. This is to be expected by any player of good SP RPG's (especially the Ultima games). Part of what is enjoyable about roleplaying games is... *gasp* role playing!
What a shame that a game that claims it is a spiritual successor to classic SP RPG's has so many MMO features and a community (and dev team) who are wholly deaf to the wants and needs of SP enthusiasts.
I can't even begin to fathom Berek's interpretation of the issue, incredulously quipping "Just so I'm clear, we're concerned about the Oracle giving out too much money?"
No you fuck-wit, they're not concerned about the Oracle giving out TOO MUCH MONEY. They are considering the virtuous implications of taking that money (and wondering if there might be strings attached). They'd like to avoid taking money because they are actually playing the role of an Outlander in a strange, new land who doesn't quite know who is friend or foe.
Ravicus and Mekong (I think?), and the few other true gamers who still remain loyal to your shoddy product and your pathetic community and vision, are concerned that you cram MMO type features down their throats and give such shoehorned features no basis within the game's lore, as well as no way for the player to actively choose whether to accept the money or not.
They are complaining that there is no attention given to the virtues, and no thought spent considering the ethical implications of taking the money... "The oracle giving out too much money" is not even close to what Ravicus is talking about!
He's actually putting himself in the game world, thinking things like: Is this money a bribe? Will their be strings attached to it? Is the Oracle really some malevolent force that appears to be doing good, yet is actually setting you up for a fall...? Are there maybe consequences to NOT accepting the money? etc, etc
And just look at the responses of shitters like Berek, Lollie, Greyfox.... then you will see everything that is wrong with SotA and thecommunity membersWHALES who have exerted so much influence over its development.
These people are argumentative toward ANYTHING that ANYBODY says about the game that doesn't follow the status quo. They don't question. They don't ponder. They don't think. They just bleat down any suggestions for change that don't conform to their normalcy bias without reason or provocation.
They are the bleating sheep from Orwell's "Animal Farm" who were only useful for shouting down opposition to the tyranny of Napoleon/the pigs.
In my eyes, Ravicus' concern is justified and his thinking is in-line with any gamer who has immersed him or herself in a world to the point that they think beyond the obvious, and despite what the idiots like Lollie/et al imply, I can't see how it would be that hard for Lum to update the NPC scripting for Oracle and Town Criers so players have a way to turn off the flag that awards them money. Maybe even later on, consequences for both taking and refusing the money could be coded in to the story, but an option to accept or decline should not require that much attention from the devs (I am speaking as a laymen, so I am possibly way wrong, and I am open to being corrected on this point)
Somebody in the thread suggested, let them click (or say) a phrase like "I don't want your money" and let these immersion/RP-sensitive players opt out of your MMO-side welfare program. That has almost no bearing on the MPO people. Why they care is beyond me, especially after Port has catered to their every vain and self-absorbed desires when it comes to player owned towns and more Ultimate Collector shit to buy off of the add-on store to decorate their virtual dollhouses with....
And, as far as the claim that it will take too much dev time, just look at how the continual dev time spent on POTs or add-on items that has been detrimental to the game! Devs can bend over backwards and go to great lengths to do right by the POT big spenders (and will always have new items to roll out to sell in the add-on store), but when Ravicus Domdred (or Lorddarkmoon or Rune74 or whomever) comes along with a valid suggestion, they get shouted the fuck down like they are rubbish.
IT IS WRONG AND A TOTAL DOUBLE STANDARD IN HOW PEOPLE IN THE SOTA "CULT" ACT. BOTH DEVS AND PLAYERS.
That thread is full of tonedeaf and clueless.... from Berek to the brainless wonders like Lollie and Greyfox, they are all dumb fucks and they should be ashamed of how eagerly they display their total lack of brains and their abject inability to empathize and try to see where Ravicus and others are coming from. I question if these people even really game or if they are just here to play some virtual real estate market and troll "peasants" who aren't willing or able to spend thousands of dollars on the luxury virtual crap that Port peddles.
Can't even believe this is the same community who will call this shit game the spiritual successor to the Ultima games. Or proclaim themselves to be a "great" community. It's vile and beyond delusional.
All people like Ravicus are asking for is the tools and features they believe they need to help the world feel immersive and realistic enough that they can actually stop to consider whether it's a good idea to take money from that strange being, or whether they are wrong or right to go fight the "evil" monsters in the forest, or whether they did the right thing when you (insert common RPG trope here)....
How the fuck did we go from RG/Ultima games (with the way those games built up the virtues, then explored them, and even tore them down), to this dumb-as-shit "so we're arguing about giving the Oracle too much monies hurr durrrrrrr?" mouth-breathing STUPIDITY!!!!!!!!!?
Look at the way Ultima VI led the player to believe one thing, made you think you are going around fighting evil and saving the world, then totally upends the story and makes a broader point about how we (often wrongly) judge things and those around us, only to learn later about how wrong we were (and how badly it has hurt other people).
Sota very clearly lacks this kind of subtlety, because its "fans" (with the exception of a select few) are too busy fapping to add-on swag to realize it. And SotA lacks this kind of depth and complexity, because its development team very obviously DGAF about the aspects of the game that might actually make it interesting to play. They're too busy creating more tacky shit for people to buy to decorate virtual dollhouses (that Port will charge taxes on, requiring COTA/rmt or excessive grinding).
A game wholly built around grinding so that you can collect "rares" and decorate your house with them (and your house and armor/weapons/gear are the very gold sink that elicits you to either fork over real world money for COTAs, to avoid having to play the game to grind gold, or $$$ to buy a pledge with a tax free lot/etc).
No wonder people who don't pay to skip the grind find the game unbearably boring and stop playing it! Port ignored Raph Koster's points about games as a service, about how at every upsell your customer has the choice to "divorce" you and your game (so your game and its gameplay better be fun, and the relationship you have with the customers had better be good, or they'll say fuck off and stop playing).
They clearly think placating the whales and toxic people like Jamma/Lollie/Greyfox/Baron Drocis is the way to go. They are wrong.
>Player makes thread asking for a way to opt out of the devs misguided "war on poverty"
>Explains he is playing in SPO, has no need for the money
>Also, he mistrusts any entity who would give away money...
>What strings are attached? Where does this money come from? etc.
>Community mocks him, derails his thread, and shows the world how shameful they are.
>Not only does Berek, community manager, allow the abuse to go uncheck... he actually adds some snark of his own to the dogpiling.
>SNAFU
