I just want everyone's reviews, I want the negative reviews to be more on point and the positive reviews to be more on point.
I don't want to see the negative reviews boosted simply because they are negative and vice versa. I think it has been a real disservice to the steam community - both in the initial days when everyone gave a giant glowing review (which was misleading to new customers) and the later days now with the negative reviews being upvoted which is misleading to new customers.
I know one particular player who has 10 steam accounts with 5 bucks on 9 of those accounts and upvotes all the negative reviews. I think this is stupid, I have upvoted some of the negative reviews and some of the positive ones.
The top 10 reviews in the past 30 days are all negative at the top of the list.
And yet 4 of the last 10 reviews were positive, the positive ones get buried.
----------
4 out of 10 reviewers liking the game in it's current state - that's kinda crappy. But at the same time, that's still 4 out of 10 people who want to stick around and nobody is seeing those 4 reviewers because their posts are unfairly buried (unless they were fairly buried because they were crappy reviews). But perhaps what 4 of those 10 people had to say will resonate with 40% of the people who read the reviews and the people who like the game will want to play the game.
I -hope- that at the end of the day, the reviews are representative of the player base of their likes and dislikes. One of the most common PM's I get right now is "I would like to review the game, but I don't want to hook my account up to steam, or I don't want to download steam."
----------
I have a pretty healthy circle of friends, I've told them about the game (probably because I was responding to a PM on my phone and said something), and the ones who have tried it, like the game. And I know this is because they've only played part of it. You get into the game, the graphics are pretty good (for an MMO, obligatory qualifier there) and you get in, read some tooltips, explore a bit, realize you can cut down trees and start to craft stuff and maybe save up for a house as a long term goal (whether to rent or own). Maybe you're lucky and run into something interesting like the throne of bone area - couple of puzzles, some exploration and baddies, and an actual reward at the end of the tunnel.
But it's not a full game, and if they played it thinking it was - they'd say "lol, this sucks, there's no story." I'm still in it for the long haul, there's some jerks and some cool folks, some lovers and haters, but I've enjoyed my time in the community and my experience in the community. And yes, I'll probably never kickstart a game again unless it's a single-player Ultima game. Though I don't regret being here for SotA, I just wouldn't do it a second time. Granted when the game hit kickstarter I wasn't married (I was engaged) and I didn't have a son.

If anyone wants to ask me any questions about the market or my thoughts feel free. I'm always open to talking about my concerns and thoughts. I want the game to succeed, that does not mean I'm wearing blinders or am unwilling to see the problems, I'm simply content to keep offering feedback and taking part in the community and seeing what happens.
I've looked here a little bit and I think there are some massive misconceptions, I don't want to get drowned in negativity so if that happens I might not stick around - but it's hard for me to see misconceptions and not want to answer at least a little bit.
Party on dudes. And feel free to review on steam if you haven't, and upvote the well-written reviews. Don't down-vote them simply because you disagree with them, just downvote them if they suck as reviews or don't talk about the game.

To be fair, it isn't a dev asking for the positive votes.
I'm not asking for positive votes, I'd like to see more of them if I'm reaching people who haven't decided to vote, but I am not asking for people to vote positive nor discouraging people from voting negative. It really does not in the least concern me whether someone likes or dislikes the game. I might debate the parts they talk about if I disagree - but I do not feel I need to make anyone like the game that does not like it, I just like honesty and accuracy.
PS> If anyone is wondering, is this really Lord Andernut, well - who else writes such long and wordy and rambling and exhausting posts?
