Here's what I don't buy:
I keep hearing the staff chant this mantra, as if everything is normal and "don't let the door hit you in the butt when you leave" ...er, "oh but we're so sad you're leaving" attitude.
But player retention is extremely important. It's not a revolving door, "Oh, players come and go, it's all good." In UO, we saw numbers continue to grow, growth exploded in fact, and that caused the housing shortages.
In SotA, there are absolutely no housing shortages. There's a glut, especially with POTs. Some of these people can't offload their accounts fast enough.
That is not "come and go." These were people who had substantial investment, who had plans to be part of that persistent player base. When new players come, the game grows. It does not shrink. The game has shrunk. It hasn't been a consistent "come and go."
Further, they don't care that they've estranged the very player base they wanted to draw and retain. The same one that kept UO running for 2 decades. You estrange that niche crowd, then what niche crowd are you summoning? Who are you drawing?
A "come and go" happens after the peak of a game cycle, not when players should be eagerly anticipating it.
The fact he claims they've been live for 3 years has its own set of issues as well. They prepare themselves legally at every turn.

Did anyone also notice in that thread, they state the majority of their players are connected to Steam.
