This "soft launch" term - since I'm seeing it for various games, it's the "new" definition of "persistent Alpha." I mean really, somehow they think consumers will think it's something new in the industry. Who do they think they're trying to kid?
Reminds me of the sugar industry renaming it to "dehydrated cane juice" to make it sound natural or better than a load of refined junk. lol
So this article that Portalarium boasted about: Perfect Ten: The most exciting MMO developments yet to come in 2016
I wonder if the author cares if they ever get published articles again for being a paid shill. Of course, that's all that Massively OP website is anyway.
But this "persistent state" BS, I'm LOL:
Listen dipwad author, no "kind of" to it. lol
As if consumers enjoy plunking money into an unfinished game and wait for it to finish while playing it. Or persistently unfinished more like.
And if that wasn't enough, who is relieved they also did not invest in Crowfall? (raising my hand, me! me!)
LOL They're going down the same damn road that SotA has gone.

Shroud of the Avatar’s persistent state
No, Shroud of the Avatar is not launching (yet it kind of is). When Release 32 arrives at the end of July, the game will perform its final wipe before going into a persistent state. Call it a persistent alpha, a soft launch, or what have you, but the fact of the matter is that adventurers will be able to start playing for keeps as the world continues to be built around them.

Crowfall’s soft launch
ArtCraft is being a little cagey about its development schedule, but in a recent letter to the community, the team said that while game features are getting pushed to next year, it is aiming for a “soft launch” to get fans in and playing the alpha (or beta) ASAP. Could this be by the end of 2016? We wouldn’t include it on this list if it wasn’t a distinct possibility!
