Thanks for that write up HWB. It does seem as it would be worth while to play though from a carebear point of view.
How much of the game is hidden behind microtransactionz? It is F2P, does that afford you %100 of the solo campaigns?

Thanks house wife. I reached lvl 20 and haven't logged in. Beyond bored fuck all player interaction. Feels like a single player.
Try Wow. I like the pvp whilst not perfect far from it I got a regular group a play with and talk shit with. Pretty much what keeps me playing. I login pvp then I'm off.

Reminds me, I still haven't canceled my monthly sub to ESO. I haven't played it in months either. lol Woops
Pretty much the same opinion as HWB but even though many here hated Skyrim, I loved it and all the Elderscrolls. Just not ESO so much.
Been playing Witcher3 and finally finished the main questline and almost all the side quests.
There aren't any good MMOs out there. And I had hoped SotA would be but of course, that was a foolish investment.

I too find it quite amazing how much it feels like a single player game with so many people around. I make fun of the p2w store all the time in ESO zone chat, just to piss all the fanboys off, getting them to start whining. The store really doesn't change the game much, you will be able to play everything in the game. There are mounts and stuff that you can only get in the store but those are mostly just cosmetic. They have been adding dumb stuff like ways to gain more xp, advance skills to the store, which is why I've going hard on making fun of them so much in game. There has been a recent dlc or whatever that you have to pay for, I haven't bought it though, just because it's just adding more group content and I have a hard enough time finding a group already, I'm not paying more money to be pissed off/bored even more. ESO does do a lot of things right though, more than any other MMO at the moment. C
For the wow deal, I'll never play it, I prefer game's that look more realistic, wow is to cartoony, especially with people riding around on motorcycles? lul no thanks. I avoid auto attack games as much as possible, way to easy and boring. not a fan of the camera angle, I prefer first person or third by far. Also I blame Wow for creating a mmo carebear culture, I'll never support them. The only reason that I'm giving Shards online a chance is because of who the developers are and it's very similar to UO.

I'll give you some important things that ESO is doing right.
The combat system: it is the best system that I've seen in a MMO yet. I should reference this to PVE, it's a very active combat system, mostly free aim but there is some skills that use a hybrid free aim system. Like when you shoot a bow, you have to at least aim the bow near the enemy, but if it's a little off, it'll still hit. Keep in mind that not all skills use this hyrbid freeaim auto attack system. There is active blocking, dodging which a lot of games mess up.
Skills and whatever: The skill system actually works and makes sense. It allows different combinations of stuff, when combined with different gear, there are many different builds. I still prefer a skill based system over anything though.
Gear and crafting: Lots of different gear out there, providing many different possibilities of builds. The crafting system is not the greatest but it is not terrible, it works well with everything else and opens up for further options for gear.
The Ai: Some Ai that you fight will actually take some player skill, active movement, and in some cases a very thought out plan. I've fought some group bosses that require a competent group of people to defeat. It sure is not a stand in one spot and DPS, which we see in most games now. The AI actually do some interesting things, have interesting mechanics, some in which make you change up your play style.
Character creation: The best character creation that I've seen yet in a mmo.
The story line, quests, whatever: There is a ton of content here, more than any other game that I've played and all of it is voice acted, never have seen another game with so much voice acting. Some quests are at least semi interesting, some that you actually have to pay attention to complete, you'll have to read stuff or you'll mess it up, you probably won't even realize you messed up if you are one of the speed runners that doesn't pay attention to anything.
How the game looks and sounds: This is definitely the best looking MMO that I've ever played, to the point that I'll actually look at the scenery. Great sound in this game too.
The game is pretty spot on, it's just to bad that it's not more of a MMO and that it is so carebear.

Like it could be fine tuned but tis definitely in the vicinity of very good and active. You feel like you are playing the game and not a passenger. Id love to see a Chivalry style combat brought in to flesh out the "free" attack system. But ive harped on that so much

I agree with you that some combat things felt off, I tried pretty much everything until I found what felt right for me. I've brought this up with other people in game before and came to find out that lot's of others found that what I didn't feel felt right for me, worked for them well.
Mount and Blade combat blows chivalry out of the water, I'd love to see a MMO with Mount and Blade combat. Life is Feudal is suppose to be similar in a way but I haven't tried it yet, waiting for it to be developed more. M&B is the top game where player skill shines, a perfect eample of how simple a combat system can be and at the same time providing a system with such a learning curve. It is amazes me that more games don't adopt this system, I only know of a few that M&B worked with directly.
Also something to note about ESO is that the game itself isn't even finished. It's almost like the game is in Beta because they have plans to keep adding in other fundamental systems, not just DLC content, or different area's etc. One of the huge reasons people cried about ESO at the beginning was because half of the content or systems that are present now weren't there at the beginning. It's a work of progress and these developers have shown that they don't give a fuck if they completely change the whole game whenever they want. Some big things are suppose to happen at some point but who knows when, I don't really look into it.

I actually back in the day pre ordered Mortal Online, like giving money for the development of the game before it was created. I got this cool looking mortal online tin box thing as a gift. I used to play it back when it was first released, before it went free to play sub model. I quit playing soon as they made these changes due to the fact that the server was almost unplayable with it's location, lag was bad enough that it wasn't worth subbing for. If you don't sub or whatever, you won't be able to do some stuff in game, important stuff like pick pocketing.

If it wasn't for the server lag, I would be playing Mortal Online today. I haven't played the game in a very long time but I remember that the combat was very clunky and that it was a very hardcore game with a great crafting system, lot's of interesting things. Most likely the most hardcore game that I've played yet. I have been thinking of trying it out again.

I never played Mortal Online, either. Didn't have the computer for it at the time it released, and didn't have the friends to try it otherwise. Also heard terrible things about it after launch. If it's F2P I'd give it a shot - honestly thought it was shut down now.

I played it from the beginning of testing to release, until it went free to play with restrictions / sub model and there was never anything in the game to really make it bad besides the lag and some bugs at the time. It is one of those games that is a great idea but doesn't have the proper backing. They released the game before this whole crowd funded hype started too. There is one thing about the game that I really didn't like and that is the character creation, you have to combine some funky races to obtain a worthy character. I didn't want to be half the garbage races that were there but you had to mix and match to be able to do certain things. Other tham that and the unacceptable lag in game, the only other semi negative things that I could think of about the game is the very basic combat system that feels clunky as hell and the housing was pretty blah. I think it is a far better game than Darkfall and is way more hardcore, I'm sure a lot has changed, improved since I played a long time ago too. AS i said, the main problem with the game was the lag, the server is located in sweden or something like that, so you can imagine the lag possibilities with that. The internet has advanced quite a bit since I played last though so possibly lag isn't even an issue now. One thing I liked a lot was the crafting system. Take for example crafting a bow, from what I remember, it's been a while. you have to collect different types of wood, or bone, something and other things than create a bow with these different materials in a multi step process. Like you use one material for the riser and another for the limbs, and you can add more or less of the material to grant different effects. The effects would be how fast the bow shoots, how far it shoots, how much damage it does, you really had to experiment with these multiple materials and the amount of material added to find what worked, it was actually interesting and fun.

That sounds pretty cool, actually. And it's F2P? I might look into that. I'm not in the mood for testing games right now, and while Pathfinder is on my list, that's a ways away from being done (if ever). And Star Marine won't be out for another few months, I imagine. I need a proper guild to get back into UO (and likely UOF, at that), so that won't be a thing. But I might give MO a shot, see if it's worth playing.

I believe to can try it for free, but it could be buy to play too, not sure. You will be at a big disadvantage playing for free though, there are restrictions when playing free, you need to sub to have full access. It will be good to get an idea if it's even something that will interest you though. It's hard to find any information covering this on their website.

Do you people have GTA? could go around terrorizing people, would be fun times. I just played GTAV for the first time yesterday. Stunters VS Snipers was the most fun I've had in an online console game in years. Snipers sit on a tall platform over a street intersection while stunters drive armored cars off jumps and try to land on the sniper platform.

Yea, people have created many other variations of that stunters vs whatever too. I found it to be alright, wasn't a huge fan of it though. I play on pc, am almost at level 200 and only play the free aim lobbies. I've got millions of legit money too, currently waiting for them to add Mansions to buy. My favorite mode is probably survival, I can finish all the maps except the square by myself.
