cliqist.com/2016/03/30/shroud-avatar-gives-backers-world-digital-goods-not-much-else/This article correctly identifies the shit that is lord british's sota poop. It points out the glacial movement of development, not that agile bullshit port talks about, the addon store shit and the very shady telethons that still are ran stating that if it were anyone else besides garriott they whole thing would be considered a scam. It IS a scam.

What's interesting is just how much she undersells how horrible the cash store has become; the airship is glaringly elitist yes, but it's not anywhere near as expensive as the Player Owned Towns, and they include gameplay content that's largely inaccessible unless you spend such money too.
I will to be fair point out she's incorrect about needing real money to buy a home; you just can't buy any of the nicest ones without it, but some will be in game for (huge amounts of) virtual currency. Incidentally, are these forums still visible to the public? I think we've all lost track, and interest, since the game clearly became locked into being a failure...

The forums are public now, doesn't really matter. Everywhere but the actual Sota site has all dissent towards the game. Not much needed to say anymore and I'm sure SPO will be well compete and play like a true singleplayer.

She was incorrect about a few things. Episodes 2&3 were never advertised as stand alone games (as she states). That doesn't Sully her point though. I do think it would be pointed to as her being less than knowledgeable about the game, were someone to read the piece and attempt to respond.
The other thing that bothers me is she seems to hint that the game might not release. I think, at this point, that's somewhat of an absurd point. To Port's credit, they've kept their servers live for a long time.
Obviously we here, if there is a here anymore, find the game of poor quality (or worse). Does anyone actually suspect they will not go live in July? Sure, it's been very slow progress for a game using unity and associated assets, but I think it's a silly argument to say the game won't release at some point.
The general opinion of the quality of that end product is another point entirely. It makes much more sense to me to argue that this is wasted cash spent on a poorly designed product than cash spent on potential vaporware.
Episodes 2+, and long term viability of the product, I think those are certainly worth questioning.
For me, it's actually worse thinking they are going to release the game they are than if they had gone belly up making something I found worthy of my time

I do think they may, and probably will delay beyond July, partly because until I unsubscribed from the newsletters last week, every single one had almost every single core feature described like this; "exciting new content we'll be releasing next publish due to unforseen issues, we'll be pushing exciting new content back to the next release" And then tonnes of store items instead, so the content stream isn't exactly rocketing along in general. And secondly, with the world largely uninterested either way, and the definitions of "going live" so fluid and unimportant to the remaining fanbase, there's no real punishment for delaying if they feel they need too, but a huge risk if they announce to the world "We're ready! This is version 1.0"... I honestly think the Devs are humble enough to know at some level they're not ready, and unlikely to be any time soon, so they're more likely to delay than release. But we'll see.

But we'll see. I see your points, but I also think that mostly no one gives a fuck and they can simply go live and the forum folks will be happy. They don't need to (or won't) publicize it at that point, since regardless they'd be marketing an unfinished game. They've basically already made it clear 'Hey, we're going live and a whole ton of shit won't be done!' I figure what's the difference if a few more items are added onto that list. Most of the forum goers have already become comfortable with the idea that the game will be live in a completely unfinished state. Also, the increase in items in the store could be in response to a fairly low dollar amount taken in last month, comparatively speaking. It was their lowest total in 6 months and nearly half what they typically bring in. They also introduced a bunch of stuff on the store, then launched announced a new sale a week later. Way to respect your financial backers! Response from said folks, 'Ah well.'

I think we're in actual agreement, I was just thinking the same lack of a fuckness means they can also delay going live and no one would notice either; and whilst the remaining community is itching to finalise their virtual Lordships, the fact that they have hyped up for years the value of property means the Land Rush is bound to attract a bit of attention, so they're going to try and make that run smoothly at least... and they've never yet done any of the major coding on time. Still, as you say, the game will be going live unfinished no matter what; I just don't trust them to not have to delay a bit for the work required to support going live...

I'm willing to bet they will fuck up the distribution of lots, and probably miss a bunch of people.
