I got to thinking, why are there so many NPC towns? They seem to outnumber a lot of other games.
My thought is that they are just lot farms. Anyone think the same? Is this just a result of promising everyone a house lot?
If the number of NPC towns could be reduced to say, eight, then all of the time and effort would have been focused on those eight and I might believe they would feel much better. More NPCs, more love of all kinds, even despite the POT issue being present.

Yes, they promised that no one would have to place their house in a POT, so they have to create those town farms.
If the POTs vastly outnumber the NPC towns (and they do/will, as you know), the impression that creates for a new player, who has no house? Fuck me. I'm out of here.

Hmm it would also be a great way to push people into POTs where perspective tax free lots which some POTs offer by taxing the NPC lots heavily.

People won't go to PoTs while the owners can evict without cause/for any reason/at any time. At least, no-one I've ever talked to will even consider it.

40 towns that have the personality of a dead fish. They should have done maybe 10 really good ones....not this crap.
