... what game would you make it like? In other words, if you could make the SP elements of SotA similar, or at least reminiscent of another SP game, what would you aim for?

That is a rough one for me to answer, since I'd actually like them to focus a bit more on the MPO aspects of the game.
I don't fucking care about graphics. I don't give a rats ass about cutsie emotes. Chat systems don't interest me for better or worse there will be a way to communicate.
I like Epic-ness. Give us some really tough PvE mobs that are larger than life, read from the books/story and god-like.
If we're talking single player only, I want a totally different housing system, I don't like any of it as it stands. I want to be able to build my own corrupted lich tower out of shitty looking old crumbling stone. No idea how this is to be done, but that would be good. Not blocky minecraft shit. No thanks. If I can't build my own lich tower, allow me to move anything I see into the game into a scene which already exists. I kill a lich and take his nasty ass tower, put all my own junk in it. You know, things you could even do way back in the early Ultimas for fucks sake.
There are many grand ideas, but I don't think they are going to work out too well unless I see something different in the next 6 months... If you cross TES4 with Ultima VI and toss in some Ultima IV virtue systems it might turn out to be ok to play through once in SPO.

Fact of the matter is, SotA should have only been a single player RPG. I would have replicated what Wasteland 2 did.

Fact of the matter is, SotA should have only been a single player RPG. I would have replicated what Wasteland 2 did. Yeah, I thought I was getting another Ultima. But the push to MMORPG format was strong and immediate. Admittedly I was excited for about 5 mins, hopeful of decent new Ultima PvP, but no. At this point I wish they would take it all back, drop all multiplayer and go SP for as good as the MPO is going to actually turn out to be. Even SPO looks shit now because of the MMORPG push, no NPC intelligence, only stock standard weapons, basically just a flat fucking brown piece of shit either way you look at this. Where is the spice?

I would more than love a mmorpg with the M&B style of combat, with magic and other mechanics added in, done in a very balanced way. M&B FTW.

Does anyone remember back in the beginning of SotA, when RG said that the era of MMO's had ended?
I almost agree with what he was thinking back then.
I don't care much about graphics either, but they have their place. On one hand, if you dump too much into graphics, the game runs like crap, but on the other, if you put only some effort into graphics, people complain. Even people who might claim not to care about graphics would likely complain if we had blocky minecraft graphics.
Perhaps SotA should have been single player. That way PvP wouldn't be a problem at all and the easy-to-use combat system could fly. If the game were SP though, then there would be no point in using RNG to balance player ability.

I remember those speeches, one of many attempts by them to create hype by putting down others. They might of been right about the lack of quality rpg, mmorpg games in the last years but the truth is that they aren't adding anything special to the gamine industry, in fact the game is so sub par in a lot of aspects, all they have accomplished is to show the world how not to run a company, how not to make a game and how hype centered around certain individuals can turn out to be untrue. I do think this game would of made way more sense as a single player only title.

Oddly enough Underworld Ascendant appears as if it might be more proper single player Ultima than SotA, as it is being set in the great Stygian Abyss.

I feel the same, I'm completely done with anything that has direct ties with RG, or the other 2 stooges. Same goes for anything Ultima related, I'll never support it if RG is banking off it in one way or another. The only exception will be is if EA ever makes a new Ultima, I would try that, especially to shit all over these fanboys. I know back in the day Underworld was a new revolution, something people haven't seen before, I believe that's where the success came from. Today from what I've seen and read, it looks terrible and they seem to of lost that cutting edge factor. What really kills it for me is that it's underground and the races, I know I'm being picky but come on, these old time developers need to get with today's standards or don't even bother coming out to attempt something. All of them together should of just burried both series and retired from what I've seen.

Top-down isometric hd graphics etc inspired by ultima 6&7.
If 3D, then i'd make the game look like the cover of ultima v.

Now I didn't say anything about consoles, but yeah PC is mastr ace. Skyrim was truly terrible though, so I apologize in advance to anyone who loves it. It's a lot like the Phantom Menace last three Star Wars movies but for The Elder Scrolls. The excessive combat was a problem in itself for 100+ hour gamers, but the horrible quest lines are what killed it for me.

Skyrim and TES in general have always boasted large maps, but I sometimes wonder if a smaller map (say, the Summerset Isles) with more depth packed into it would be preferable. As far as mods go, any player of Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, or Morrowind should mod that shit immediately.

I've been keeping up to date on it yes, though I'm going to hold off on playing it so the modding community can catch up. What the fuck did you say about Star Wars, you fucking flower?!?!?!?! I apologize. Let me say it more clearly. The phantom menace was trash, and made no sense. Qui-Gon Gin was clearly an alcoholic, which would explain all of his decisions throughout the entire movie, and his death. Recall that the Phantom Menace starts with Qui-Gon and Kenobi acting as negotiators on behalf of the galactic senate. Palpatine's plan is to start a war, use it to overthrow the chancellor, then gain full control of the senate, and finally kill all the jedi. Because of this, you'd think that he would use the confederate army to attack Naboo, which he does. By letting word reach the senate, he can impeach the chancellor for being incapable and get his foot in the door, which he doesn't. Instead, the chancellor develops a drinking habit with Gin early on in the film. You see, Palpatine tries to assassinate the only two people who could tell the senate of his attack on nNaboo (again, which would, and eventually does, propel the galaxy into war). Fortunately, the brilliant plan only exposes the jedi to toxic gas for a brief moment, that way, even if they aren't capable of stilling their breathing with the force, they should be ok. Then, to secure the room, they send in the battle droids, who exist only to be slaughtered en masse. Gin and Kenobi escape, and decide to descend with the attack force to Naboo to search for more booze warn people of the incoming attack, instead of returning to the senate to inform them of the problem. See, the people of Naboo have no army, and only the senate can protect them, which is why ambassadors were sent to resolve the situation to begin with. Luckily, this is a moot point, because instead of heading to Theed, Qui-Gon and Kenobi split up, risking separation on the planet, only to meet up on the complete wrong side of Naboo. To cope with this, they meet Jar-Jar, one of the series' stronger characters (heh), who brings them to the gungan city. Somehow, they secure a shuttle to navigate through the CENTER OF NABOO1. After arriving in Theed, which is under attack, Qui-Gon carelessly jumps out of the ship, certain that none of the invading forces could have seen them, to survey the situation. Then, there's some people stepping in poopoo for the children, Anakin is a slave, and Qui-Gon gets drunk. This time, the powerful jedi decides to abuse his powers, using the force to manipulate Watto into making a bad trade with him. Although this is clearly unethical, Qui-Gon's hypocritcal ethics stop him from stealing what he wants, despite not hindering his interest in using the force to control peoples' minds. However, Watto resists the force control, and Anakin wins a race but his mother can't come with him she has to die later so he can darkside fall sith lord order 66 etc. Somehow, by the end of the film, our heroes make it back and fulfill Palpatine's plan to inform the senate of the attack, despite Palpatine's efforts to stop them. They fight Darth Maul, a Sith Assassin noted for his strange looks (a result of his Zabrak hybridization) and his use of a rare lightsaber form, Juyo. Oh, he had like, two lightsabers or something too. This form is known for it's use of the force to enhance the user's swing speed and ferocity. In the movies, few Jedi used this form, due to it relying on some darker emotions (Windu rocked Vaapad, a variant of the form, but he was really a grey jedi anyway, a fact made obvious by his sith colored lightsaber and his samuel jackson badassness). Despite Juyo being a highly aggressive, and generally darker form, Maul dances around with dainty extravagant moves that make it look more like everyone is trying to miss one another. Kenobi gets stuck behind a force field, having forgot his force speed ability. Qui-Gon, who uses Ataru, which is generally noted for being an aggressive form with lots of flips and technical movements, disregards the danger of fighting the Juyo form, and gets killed for it. Not surprisingly, Kenobi then rethinks his focus on Ataru, opting to focus on a more defensive form (after cutting Maul in half, who later is found to have survived). At the end of the film, Anakin is brought before the council members, who all agree that he will bring doom to everyone and cannot be trained. Kenobi, being a master persuader, convinces Yoda with little effort to change the council's mind. Kenobi then trains him, bringing doom to the republic. To go through the next two movies, or even to go through the Phantom Menace in greater detail, would be belaboring the point. Now, flower, what say you?

Here I come. Star Wars talks, oh boy oh boy oh boy *shakes violently*
Now, I fully acknowledge that Lucas is shit and he's done a lot of bad things for the universe he created. I also believe that for example Knights of the Old Republic( not The Old Republic) is way better than the movies. That the movies are not deep enough and so on. But I do not agree that those movies are "a failure". But let's see what you've written.
Wtf am I rading. Anyway. Death sticks maybe?
Not attack, but issue a blockade. Not qute the same?
Sorry, but I honestly didnt understand what you meant by that.
Well, no one expected that the jedi would survive both the gas and the droids. Perhaps Sidious should have been more specific about ways to kill the jedi. Anyway, I guess it is safe to assume that not all jedi would survive this shit. Qui Gon and Obi Wan were lucky to have those breathing devices.
First, as far as I remember, they went to Naboo because this was the only place they could flee to at the moment. Honestly, I don't fucking remember how they reached naboo. I'm fucking stupid I know. Jesus christ, how they did it? ...... Fuck me. I dont even remember the motherfucking movie. Holy shit.
I fucking hate this shit
Well, not like someone was expecting a small underwater vessel or something.
Well, first of all, Qui Gon wasn't your ordinary Jedi. He was a bit different from the rest, and viewed the Force differently (Living Force, blah blah). His actions only reflect that. And that's the reason he was not on the council.
Yea, the part where his mother is captured is a bit cheesy.
Wasn't the senate informed earlier via holotransmission?
Now it rly seems ur pulling arguments out of your ass.
No, they only agree that he can not be trained, because he is already too old.
Yea that was strange...oh well, maybe Yoda really respected Qui Gon and Kenobi and that's why. Maybe Yoda's change of mind is explained more deeply in the novels? I haven't read them.
Now I agree movies could be a lot better but we DONT have OTHER Star Wars movies. And without these movies, we wouldn't have Star Wars either. We wouldnt have KOTOR, Karpyshin's trylogy, etc.
I was hoping you would present more interesting points, but instead you got stuck in some lightsbear styles why dont they look like they should in the movies blah blah bullshit.
Good post tho.
p.s. I'd personally kill Lucas if I could. Appoint Karpyshin the director of all future movies. That would be gud.

I didn't expect such thorough dissection of my post! Very well. Soon you shall experience... The fact that the confederacy was using a blockade is a moot point. To do so, they still attacked and invaded Naboo, and even if they only had used a space blockade, the same goal would have been accomplished (they didn't however, instead showing up with guns blazing). The second quote explains one of Palpatine's many self-defeating moves, such as attempting to assassinate the two people who's job is to spread word of the blockade to the senate (which is what Palpatine wants). Sure he hates the Jedi, but he waits most of his life for his chance to kill them, showing that he has more than enough patience. Now, I understand that Palpatine thinks less of the Jeeyedie, but to think that several battle droids would be sufficient to kill two jedi is bordering on humorous. Remember, this is the guy who was chosen by Plagueis to inherit the legacy of the rule of two, created a thousand years ago by the Sithari, Darth Bane. He manages to fool the entire galaxy and has trained Maul for the sole purpose of killing Jedi, showing that he knows that they are stronger than some cheap military droids (he even took Maul to Coruscant as a child to show him all of the jedi he would hopefully get to kill some day). With cunning like that, coupled with extensive force/lightsaber training, you'd expect Palpatine to, at least, forewarn the viceroy. Still, the fact that Kenobi and Qui-Gon were exposed to gas so briefly that even a non-jedi could've held their breath through it shows the lack of care in this assassination plot. Why use the battle droids at all? I would have just left the door shut, at least for a day. Also, Kenobi and Qui-Gon didn't have any devices for the gas. They had rebreathers, which allow for underwater breathing. Since you forgot, they got to Naboo by sneaking on the invading ships, although there were ships on board equipped with hyperdrives, which would have been sufficient to head back to Coruscant with. Qui-Gon notes, "We've got to warn the people of Naboo," who have no means of protecting themselves anyway. Sure, Qui-Gon was different (in that he was an alcoholic). He wasn't on the council because he had a history of drunkenly disobeying the council, doing what he believed was right with little regard for the consequences. Hence the death of the entire Jedi order (with the exception of Kenobi and Yoda). You might be right about the holotransmission. I don't actually remember, but the technology certainly exists to stay in contact, even with an incoming blockade. I'll admit that lightsaber forms are barely alluded to in the movies, but they still have some merit in this discussion. The fighting of the last three movies, despite fancier stunts, suffered from being an emotionless void of choreography. In the last movie, we literally are stuck watching a 40-minute battle between Anakin and Kenobi, when a 10 minute battle would have sufficed. By the end of it, they're jumping around on little pieces of debris in lava and swinging around on ropes. The old fights, which were very simple, such as the later encounter between Vader and Kenobi, had infinitely more character, despite not having the fancy moves and excessive CGI. This provided the audience with much more information than newer battles did. With only a few swings, we could see that Kenobi was defensively focused, a noble jedi, even if we didn't know what Soresu meant. There were hints that Kenobi still cared about Vader in their fight, and all the while we could feel Vader's hatred, displayed through his violently powerful swings, which also served to show Vader's personal struggle to acclimate to having his limbs cut off, the force partially stripped from him, and a cumbersome suit built around his body. The reason I mention that Kenobi foolishly gets stuck behind the force field is to show the lack of forethought on the part of Lucas and company, who invented the lightsaber and force forms that you regard as unimportant. Sure, most star wars fans wouldn't know specific force techniques (except for maybe choke, push, lightning, and jump), but most fans will have seen force speed at some point in their time with the movies. Considering that Kenobi has trained exclusively in Ataru up until after Qui-Gon's death, a form that focuses on movement (see Yoda, another ataru user, who jump and spins all over the place), we should expect Kenobi to not just know when and how to use force speed, but to be better than most non-ataru jedi. Call it insignificant, but these small details are what made the original movies so great. Something small, like who shoots first in a cantina, actually has a surprisingly big impact on character development. Now the council did mention age as an issue for training Anakin, but they also probed his mind and found the the passion and love (and fear) he felt regarding his mom. They saw this as a means through which Anakin could fall, so while they use age as the inital excuse, it is only because they see the risk of falling to the dark side as a result of his age. Maybe Yoda's decision was explained better in the novels, but that's moot, since Lucas decided that they aren't canon anyway. Between you and me, we do have other Star Wars movies (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi). I just ran through the movie from memory, and I haven't seen it in years, so I admit my critique is lacking. If you want a well-constructed critique of any of the new movies, check out Red Letter Media's works (assuming you don't mind the way he talks). No need to overhate on Lucas. Have you seen Lucas Vs the People, or the other documentaries on him? They show that a lot of the problems with the newer movies came from the fact that Lucas was elevated to a god-like status from the first trilogy, and so nobody felt comfortable disagreeing with anything he said. The original three movies were great both because of Lucas' work, and because of the rest of the team. The reason I dis on the last three movies is because, while I enjoyed them as a child upon release, I later returned to them, only to find that they're incoherent messes that cannot be undone. Jar-jar and Padme will forever be canon, while provocative and thought-out characters like Darth Traya have been permanently ripped from the lore.
