The story of failure that was 38 Studios is interesting to me. Curt Schilling was a huge face for UO back in the day and he long spoke about how he wanted to create his own studio and MMO. With huge names like RA Salvatore and Todd McFarlane with the company and acquiring Big Huge Games, they had a lot of buzz about their projects. The company brought on massive debt to build an mmo, amounts dwarfing Shroud's numbers. If you aren't familiar with the situation, Gamasutra has a great article about it. Anyway, a lot of documents were released related to the ongoing lawsuits filed as a result of the loss of public funds by staunch conservative anti government incursion into the private space proponent Curt Schilling. Rhode Island deserves their own criticism for the situation, giving Schilling and 38 Studios money when the company was in debt and there was open doubt about its ability to produce anything.

Here are more problems outlined by IBM who were hired on to provide an assessment of 38 Studios for Rhode Island. Lets just say the negatives outweigh the positives.

Ya I don't twitter or facebook. He's prudent forsure but does that make him an asshole? I have tremendous respect for any professional athlete to come out of the closest as a gammer and he did a long time ago. He prolly got hounded to no end by his co workers.
I respect people that call a spade a spade and he usually does. People like this usually piss some individuals off.

to come out of the closest as a gammer ? In 1997, he famously made his scandalous public proclaimation about his lust for legs.

Ya I don't twitter or facebook. He's prudent forsure but does that make him an asshole? I can accept points of view in opposition to mine without labeling those with those opinions assholes. That seems something Schilling is unable to do. I do also find him hypocritical when he laments government handouts and accepts one himself. A big one. There's also the shit he did to his employees. In moving his failing company, propped up only by government funds, from MA to RI, he forced his workforce to move to keep their jobs. In less than a year, the company ceased paying those employees and paying their health care without notice. Many of their original homes had not been sold, but they were now under two mortgages as a result of the move. In business, these things happen, sad but true. Where I hold it against Schilling is that the company was deceptive the whole way through, even insisting things were JUST FINE THANKS FOR ASKING when they'd run out of money to pay people. I will say though that many of the employees raved about the work environment, which is a positive. The end result though was disastrous for hundreds of people and the state of RI. I'm not saying you are wrong, just defending my opinion of him being an asshole.

As the ship started to sink.
