It all boils down to Old UO player are "Trammel" haters, they blame Trammel for all their own problems, which I might add, were caused by them... No one wants to play with them on their terms, in their game style, in their game world... I played UO starting in 1997, until 2010, I hadn't logged in, in over a 18 months, so I bit the bullit, packed all my stuff up, took both my houses down (2x 18x18 across from each other), I threw away a lot of crap and kept all the good stuff (put into the bank, on the chrs, I was surprised it all fit), then cancealled both my accounts and walked away... Never to look back...

I was disgusted with the way they treated Trammel players, on the boards, in the game, by designs that were only placed in to attract players to play IN Felucia...

I don't need to read your links to know they are down playing SotA, bad mouthing it, trying to kick it to the curb, after all this time they're still hating on Trammel wanting the "Good Old Days" back... They cant accept the fact that a good majority of players won't play games like the original UO was meant to be... An RPG... And don't try to use the old argument that role playing "Evil" is part of that, no one role plays evil, it's just the way they are...

Btw, not many talk about it, but one of the major flaws of UO was that the world was too small for such a huge amount of players. Especially when there was not Lost Lands, Ilshenar etc.

Trammal took away our freedom in game, introduced multiple differnt hand holding faggot mechanics. Added in a bunch of fruitcake I like getting fucked in the ass every day while my hand is being held content. The casuals carebears that love Trammal loved it because they are casuals and not actual gamers wanting to have to actually play a game. You roleplaying hand holder casuals that love shit dumbed down games to cater to the gaming handicapped can get fucked.

It's the pot calling the kettle.  Players, customers, didn't ruin UO.  You can't blame customers for how they enjoy their products, else you're powerless to address community issues.  If you try to, you'll only divide players into polarized groups (that often end up hating each other).  Casual and hardcore partisans both fall into this trap, failing to attribute just weight (just as in justice¹) to the systems and mechanics that combine with a given player to produce a player's actions.

The responsibility to maintain the game world falls to the game staff.  It is their financial responsibility to balance the game according to players' interactions with it.  This means punishing murderers, rewarding virtuous behavior, and balancing the economic viability of PKing against other means of resource gathering.  If you try to control players, or try to cut out certain types of players, you're left with Mortal Online, Everquest, Felucca, and Trammel.  What made UO stand out from these games (or facets), was that it contained players of all kinds, making the world feel mysterious and alive.
