Every time I heard "hardcore" and look at the game it describes, I almost always see an endless ocean of virgin neckbeards. They lift their 20 lbs dumb bell they keep by their computer desk and might have a barbed wire tattoo, but they're still neckbeards deep down. There's nothing hardcore about wasting time on unimaginative game mechanics. That's just a waste of time.
It's akin to eating freshly laid dogshit off the lawn, and when no one else will do it, saying they aren't hardcore enough to deal with dogshit. No one would second guess judging that individual as an imbecile and disregarding their existence outside of casual mockery, so why should it be any different for fellow gamers to cast equally accurate judgments?

When I first started UO, I was in anti-PvP guilds, then switched over to PvP. I was fairly well known and took down some of the guildmasters of other PvP guilds at times. I saw too many terrible things happen and could never kill newbies. I used to train PvP at the Brit graveyard during server down warning. Then they really nerfed PvP with "I must consider my sins" and all that nonsense. Then eventually no guilds at all and only enjoying all the other features of UO. So I lived in carebear land, and was no longer into PvP. So I guess you all would have a lot of fun with hardcore and me not so much anymore. But have fun there & let me know how you all like it.

It has nothing to do with wasting time on game mechanics. A hardcore game grants the freedom to do whatever you want, a carebear game has restrictions and you barely have any freedom, you are on rails. I want to destroy everyone I see if I choose and than piss on their dead face, not sit in fruitcake ville on my rollarcoaster. I also want a game that is so hard to play that the average retard that thinks they are a gamer doesn't last 5 seconds because they are to lazy to learn. I need challenges and the carebear auto attack safe zone top down 1990 revolution isn't cutting it anymore.

That has nothing to do with hardcore, HWB.
First person perspective games does not equal hardcore in the slightest. Hardcore game granting freedom to do whatever you want? You just said I would spend hours hacking at a tree. You also said you created bots to do the same thing. That isn't playing a game - that's unimaginative game mechanics. They couldn't balance out the need for work and the reward for doing it; they just made it repetitious and tedious and accept the botting/AFKing like in UO instead of making it more involved and meaningful. It's something that I like about Star Citizen's direction, there are no levels or skills; you can either do something yourself or you cannot.
Additionally, as far as ArcheAge is concerned, tell that to the countless trade caravans we jumped, griefed, murdered, destroyed, on land and at sea, during those few months we played. Not only was there a victory condition other than the total defeat of your opposition, but it was FUN to do.
Y'know, fun? Imagine such a reward in a game nowadays other than bragging rights.

I wouldn't waste your time with Mortal either if you don't appreciate a hardcore game or a grind. This game is probably at the top of the list or near it for both. I myself love the grind and love killing all the trash people that won't put in work, love making scrubs ragequit.

If your definition of "hardcore" is simply setting up a bot to level up while at work, then I've had almost two decades of that with UO. Only reason it's acceptable on freeshards is because 1) I've played the game so many times I don't want to have to keep starting from scratch; and 2) I'm usually done with it in 1-2 days, not weeks or months. But on actual games post-1997? It's inexcusable. That's like running around level 30 areas with a level 120 and one-shotting people because they don't put the time and money in to be on your level.
That isn't hardcore, not for me. For me it's fighting other guilds with straightforward and fair mechanics, like UO, and making them quit because they are bested economically, politically and militarily, not because I grinded longer than they did. I'm going to give MO a shot, 'cause I've already started the process, but there's a reason no one talks about this game anymore and why I even thought its servers were shut down years ago.

I'll take the reward of knowing that I am a good player, able to develop my gaming skill set to adapt and overcome in a game that allows complete freedom and is skill driven than getting some shiny in game physical reward that any one armed 10 year old can get because the game is on rails and made so everyone is equal.

Getting your attributes up isn't the hardcore part, you getting raped while doing it is.
Well we will see how far you get, I can almost tell that you won't last long. lul

There's a difference between a good player and a player who is willing to put up with shitty game mechanics until there is no one left to vie for King of the Hill because all the competition went to another game. I'm sure MO has its strengths, but the more you talk and the more I'm watching and reading in the interim, the more I remember about what people were saying when this game released and how god-awful it was.
Granted, that was 5 years ago, but no information on their wiki and a beta trailer on their website? Really? I don't care if this is the Second Coming of UO, that's professionally unacceptable. It's a good thing I'm desperate for an MMO to play until 2016 or I wouldn't have given it a second glance.

If that was an attempt to goad me on, it failed. If a game isn't fun, I don't play it; I have plenty of other hobbies to keep my ass busy, to say nothing of all the games in only one of those hobbies. One of the perks of being an adult is such shallow challenges don't phase you anymore because of how utterly meaningless they are. It's a really cool feeling to not be 9-years-old anymore, getting riled up over people flapping their arms bawking at you.

I was going to d/l this overnight until I see the comments here. Probably won't be doing it. I'd recommend trying it with us. Who knows, it may not be as hardcore as HWB is making it sound. Maybe if we're trying to be soloists or something, but casually going in to test the waters until something better invariably comes along, I see no harm in it. We'd at least have three people, then. And hey, you can have a penis, no judgments.

The game isn't bad and there really was never a reason to bitch a lot besides the lag and bugs at the time. Pansy faggots will be pussies though and bitch about anything. Probably because they got rolled 24/7
And I'm not talking about beating new players into the ground, I'm talking about these half assed gamers that are so conditioned by wow that they don't know how to even operate a game without safezones or auto attack. The ones that won't put in the work to get better and than they come to fight you and lose, than they get mad and start bitching. These people are just lazy, conditioned and expect everything to be handed to them. The difference is a hardcore game is player skill driven, the better gamers will come out on top and a carebear game is on rails, designed for equality so no one bitches, anyone can do it and compete.

Dewd, log back in and seed that mothafuckin torrent bro. Apparently something fucked up during the basic patching, but it kept patching. Or downloading, whatever it was doing then. Per someone's review: "if you can get past the installer - good job!" I got about 2 minutes before this Gofuckurself2mopatch.exe finishes, so that's refreshing.

Nevermind, I'm on 3 of 4, so I'll head to bed and check on it tomorrow after work.
Or as HWB would say, I'm ragequitting because the installer beat me at hardcore grinding.

Also on the killing new player subject, I don't know about you but I always found it exciting being a new player, having to look around all the time for Pk's, be aware of my surroundings, actually have to pay the fuck attention. It's exciting and it gets your heart going when you do see someone and wonder if they've seen you, trying to hide or whatever, it's exciting. We've lost this aspect in most games now, there is no threat anywhere usually, you just park your ass anywhere and do whatever you want without having to actually pay attention and play the game. Probably is the most exciting part of a mmo there is for me, besides the good ole pre days in UO robbing houses. In my experience in games like MO when a new player is getting raped, it's usually because the new player was a dumb fuck and went some where they shouldn't have. Now this is a learning experience, something you don't get when the game is on rails, next time around usually that new player will be more cautious and goto a smarter location. I've ran into countless new player scrubs that are so bad at gaming that they resort to coming back to get killed just to bitch some more, they are to lazy to go do something worth while and try telling you the game is shit because you actually have to get better and play smarter instead of being spoon fed.

I tried Ark as soon as it came out. Not a fan of the dinosaur thing or name tag floaters, the game looks bad and as some systems might go in depth almost some what, the overall play is very basic and boring. It seems like everyone and their moms uncles cat is hoping on the survival bandwagon these days, making endless amounts of complete trash. The Forest was at least a half decent concept for a budget game but that game seems to make little progress.
I watched the first semi recent long ass video with a MO developer, I got to say that the game does seem to have gone back into beta, the developer seemed clueless and to be an amateur. I always thought the owner of MO was an ass hat from the beginning too, I'm surprised that the guy even got a game up and running. The game looks pretty much almost exactly the same as when I played it years ago and now they are starting to add stuff, change stuff, kind of weird. I also forgot that I have an install disk for the game, which includes no patches, I wonder how much time this will save on the download, if it's even useable anymore.

I find it amusing people try to develop these games and try to make money.
Yet you had dota dayz uo emulator and countless others developed free then when the interest comes in if becomes stand alones. This is the way to do it.
I'd love to make a game out of love for a genre and have people gravitate to it. To make money off it would be down the track and only if best interest of game or running Costs got to high.
Path of exile is an amazing game for diablo2 style play. Look how they did it.

-Chop off people's heads to mount on your doorstep

Spent like 20 minutes figuring out my ancestry and unfucking my character. I don't know what half this shit means, but I have a feeling dual wielding isn't exactly pro, so I'm already set and ready to fail in my expectations.
Who else is coming along on this journey with me, and do we have a voip to shit talk about this in the process?
